Hundred Top Films

These are the best of the four hundred and fifty or so films this quarter-centenarian's seen. For me, it's the last seven that are the real gems. I favor more recent movies as much as I do because, over the years, the medium of film has grown more intimate and introspective, more visually and aurally beautiful, more realistic, artistic and lyrical than in its earlier decades, and I find those qualities to be the most valuable. I take gleeful pride in noting that a third of the summaries you see below have been tweaked, substantially improved or entirely rewritten by me. This list will broaden as the months and years pass.
