Thriller - A Cruel Picture (Thriller - en grym film) (Hooker's Revenge) (They Call Her One Eye) (1974)

BANNED IN SWEDEN!!Thriller:A Cruel Picture was the beginning of the let the punishment fit the crime grindhouse explotation films of the 1970s.Swedish actress and model Christina Lindberg (a new favorite of mine)plays a girl forced into a world of prostitution and drugs, then taking revenge on all of those responsible and wronged her.Scenes of hardcore pornography and violence caused this film to be banned in it's own country.A rumor that holds over the film, that the scene where her eye is cut out,was an actual cadaver, not fake, has never been proven otherwise. The film that Quinton Tarintino called "The roughest revenge film ever made" Christina Lindberg was given the largest insurance policy to an actress at that time, since all the guns and ammunition used were real.I don't believe in the term "guilty pleasure" this is a film I'm glad to say has become a favorite.Nasty, impressive, and knows no limit to what it can do.Looking for a Swedish import with all the goods?Give it a watch..but..PREPARE YOURSELF!Not for the faint of heart!

Short, simple and to the point,The Dark Knight Rises lives up to the hype and brings an amazing third and final chapter to the Batman series. With a very dark storyline and amazing performances by the entire cast,Christopher Nolan has come as close to the source material that this feels as real that Batman can be.At almost three hours long,it paces along rather well.A great time, and a great ride with Rises!!

Director Ridley Scott's long awaited return to the genre he helped define is a stylish, dark and atmospheric film that reminded me of what made Alien and Blade Runner such classic films. With amazing performances by the entire cast, and some of the best visuals that I have seen in a long time.Scott makes the brave decision not to answer every single question that the film brings up.And it's been a long time since I've seen an ending that is more of the kind of ending you would read in a very good novel.Which really works for the film,I felt.Prometheus is giving me the hope of a return to an intelligent series of science fiction films.Very recommended, and it is great to finally see director Scott venture back into the world of gothic science fiction

A short and to the point review. The Avengers well lives up to the hype, and just about surpasses it,as well.Non stop action, amazing effects and all around great performances by the entire cast. The film makes you remember what the term Summer blockbuster really means. This is a two hour and twenty two minute adventure that you will want to revisit again.Welcome to the Summer movie season, and Avengers assemble!! :D

Since there have already been so many reviews of this Academy Award winning film written,I will keep this one short and to the point.Seeing Titanic in IMAX and 3D was a real experience!!I first saw the film it's opening day on December 17th,1997.And seeing it again this past Friday brought back all of those memories. The brand new IMAX print outdoes the original, and surprise, the 3D does not take away from anything at all! When the scenes come up where the hull buckles, and hallways get flooded,me and several other people actually ducked! This was a real special thing for me,and I was so glad to get the chance to revisit and experience Titanic like it was the very first time.King of the world, baby!! :D

"Paranormal Activity On The Moon!"
Houston,we have a huge problem with this atrocious, silly and unscary so called "found footage" film! It's always easy to not show anything when there's not much to show!Inconclusive, unattractive and just flat out boring,Apollo 18 is supposed to be the mission that we were not supposed to know about. And after suffering through this irritating and quite frankly,is a huge rip off of Paranormal Activity. The famous scene from PA,where the girlfriend stands over the bed and stares,is in this film with astronauts!
As you may know, there were actually only 17 Apollo missions until the series was scrapped. The "found footage" was supposed to be from 1972,so we are given a period piece, that is not at all convincing. They try and make the footage look dated and old, obviously done with a cheesy after effects filter.I could have made this film better on my Android! It get's irritating fast! It's actually an interesting premise that the filmmakers felt that there could be something genuinely scary here. They never found what that was...
Apparently for a "found footage" film, they must have had about fifty cameras on the moon, too! And with so many shots of the sun in the lens,I thought, geez this movie is giving me a headache! It doesn't take long for the crew to realize that there is something weird when they find a Russian capsule, and a corpse of another astronaut.Remember, the Russians were never supposed to have been on the moon.
Unfortunately,I really can't tell you much more without literally giving away the totally lame "what it is" on the moon and what happens.I mean my friends, you will literally look to the person sitting next to you, you've never seen them before in your life,as I did,and you will say...."You've gotta be kidding me!!"And believe me,do not be curious as I write this, and wonder what has to be one of the worst endings I have seen in years!I waited an hour through all of their technical problems, and this is the payoff?God awful and more! When they introduce the thing, that is is,I thought, boy that's really one of the stupidest ideas I've ever heard!
Apollo 18,for me,is by far one of the worst films of the year.No scares, boring as can be,and just flat out annoyed the hell out of me.This film tries way too hard to stack the deck, and when the end comes up,falls totally apart.I was never a big fan of either The Blair Witch Project or Paranormal Activity. But you have to give them credit for being made so that you can identify with the characters. This film seals the fact for me that I have had it with the so called "found footage" genre. This is by far the most blatant offender of the title.Totally lame and a waste of time and money.
And again, when the so called ending that likes to say..."It's still out there and it's coming for you!"I literally, not kidding,as I was walking out of the theatre yelled "Get bent!!" Avoid this at all costs and do not let the trailers fool you into seeing this pile of total garbage. This film needs to have a proper burial twenty feet down on the moon!Stay away!

With the summer movie season coming to a close,I was at times asking myself if it would go out with a whimper or a bang. After sitting through Conan The Barbarian,I now know that it is one big whimper.Mind you, this film is not a complete loss. But,after being caught between 40% and 50%,I really have to still go with this as a rotten. But,in some ways, can be an ok rotten. This is a very all over the place production. Those of you who have heard the other reviews now now that they are mostly negative.Believe me,I now know why!I do think that Conan will make for a decent Blu Ray and DVD rental when the time arrives.
The plot here is very basic and straight forward. When the father of Conan(played very loosely and muddled by Jason Momoa)is murdered by an evil sorcerer,he takes it apon himself to live his life for getting revenge. In the land of Hyboria, what follows are some rather graphic and extremely gory and over the top comic book bloodletting. And some of those scenes actually impressed me!The battle scenes are well played and layed out. But,two problems are,the editing is not very good. And second, director Marcus Nipsel(who also directed the awful and very forgettable Friday The 13th remake)does not put two and two together very well. The pacing is sloppy, and too many scenes feel undone.
On the good side,I think this film is smart enough to know just where it's source material is coming from. And smartly does not take too much seriously. After all, this is a "fantasy" film. There are tons of blood, gore, violence, and nudity a plenty!A real saving grace for me was the presence of Rose McGowan as an evil sorceress. She really does have fun with her role, and is by far the best acting in the whole film. The rest...pretty average.Momoa is at times boring as Conan, and does seem out of place. The 3D,like many films,is not very good, and there are blurred areas in the battle scenes. You can most times tell if a film has been converted at last minute for 3D.This one,I'm really not sure. This film pretty much seals the fact that I am offically burned out on 3D!
As I've said,Conan is not a complete loss, but I really cannot tell anyone to see this in theatres. It's also been released in IMAX,but there is definately no need to see it that way at almost $50!I've really never been a fan of the Conan series, comics and books. And for those of you who are curious, there is really no way to make comparisons to the Schwarzenegger original. This Conan is totally different, and stands on it's own merits.Merits being buckets of blood, brains and body parts by the truck load! But if you cannot wait for video,do take in a cheap matinee and have some fun and laughs with it.Again,my praise to Rose McGowan, who is one of my favorite actresses for giving this film a notch up in character and acting department.
Conan The Barbarian is a major undertaking and a definate popcorn film that may in time be mostly be forgotten. With some inspired moments and lowbrow fun,but many things along the way get lost in translation.I really cannot recommend it,and I'm sure eventually the best "parts" will wind up for download on the internet! For the very curious, either matinee or just wait a few months for video.

With a summer that has really been a huge mixed bag for me,It's always a real joy to find a film that has the means to surpass your expectations. And for me,Rise Of The Planet Of the Apes is an exciting, emotional and action filled rollercoaster ride that takes you way up top and never lets go of you. With a combination of giving us amazing CGI characters that at many times you forget that they are not real. They feel as real as anyone else in the film.Being as big a surprise as 2009s District 9,Rise is a real reimagining of the now beloved Apes series. After Tim Burton's abysmal and atrocious 2001 "remake" it's great to see the series given the reimagining that it deserves.Welcome to the Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes.
James Franco is scientist Will Rodman, who has been working on what has been called The Cure.Given permission by the powers that be,he proceeds to begin experimenting on a newly born chimp, ironically naming him Caeser. As he matures and grows older,Caeser begins to surpass expectations and shows more intelligence and evolution.Seeing Ceaser as a company product rather then a real step up,company bigwigs like John Landon(Brian Cox)remind Rodman that Caeser is "company property"
Given time and after seeing mistreatment of other fellow chimps, fully developed Caeser desides that..enough is enough.Organizing an uprising,Caeser is quick in taking back a world that he feels has been taken away from him. What follows are first rate battle scenes that have to be seen to believed. And with a climax that takes us to the Golden Gate Bridge, this film had me taken in with almost every scene.
This is a very intence and well made film, that has been this year's biggest surprise for me.There is hardly ever a dull moment that I was never at all bored, and found myself, actually hoping and routing for the apes.Putting me in mind again of District 9,where you can sympathise with the alien side, humans being complete thugs and real scum.Andy Serkis(Lord Of The Rings,King Kong)gives one of the best fully CGI performance that I've ever seen.Again, you almost forget this is all done inside a computer.
Director Rupert Wyatt pulls out all the stops for what is a real summer ride. After being slightly underwhelmed with last weeks Cowboys & Aliens,Rise touches on every level of what a film can be.And,no big secret,Fox is underway in starting off with a new franchise. And I'll tell you,I cannot wait to see what they have to bring next!
Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes is another sure bet for my top ten list for 2011.Fantastic on every level,I can very much highly recommend this to just about everyone. So,strap in and get set for an amazing and nonstop chimpocalypse!

"Grab your gun,we're movin' out!"
What do you get when you mix almost every western you have ever seen,a bit of Independence Day,and and Star Wars?An interesting but not spectacular film called Cowboys & Aliens.Seeing this on Saturday, and not putting my expectations too high, had some fun with. But as you may have heard by now, early RT reviews were not very good. But despite that, this film is not a total loss, even though I was almost going to give it 50% for not being totally original. But that being said,I did enjoy the film, although it's not one I would say you have to see in theatres. And IMAX,not nesssasary,I think!
Daniel Craig is a loner who wakes up in the middle of the desert with no clue as to who he is.With a very out of place for the time braclet on his wrist he cannot remove, the "stranger" soon learns that he has a less then perfect past. When he is forced to team up with cattle baron Colonel Dolerhyde (Harrison Ford)against extraterestreals that threaten to flatten the local town, the "stranger" soon finds out that he has met with these "out of towners" before. What follows is a mix of horseback riders verses high tech ships.Decent effects and action help the film, but not a massave amount. And with a climax you will most likely guess, any sci fi and action fan will have something good to find here.
A couple of things that surprised me,one,Craig and Ford do not have as much on screen interaction as the trailers and ads like to lead you to believe.Second, the film does run a little long and does really drag at times.Written by Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof, who I thought did a brilliant job rebooting the Star Trek series. Here, not a whole lot that really jumps out of originality. And director Jon Favreau (Iron Man) opens up his bag of clever action scenes and chases. The dialouge?Borderline cheeziness.Especially with cliched lines from a lot of the cast, including Olivia Wilde(Tron Legacy)
Overall,I did enjoy Cowboys & Aliens, but not as much as I wanted to.If the film had been made a bit shorter and pased better,it would have felt more smooth rather then rough around the edges.I have read there were production problems with the film that had to be worked around. Some scenes felt like they had been rushed.
Do I recommend the film?..very mildly, but as I've said,no need to rush out too fast.C&A is a good effort, just not the massave summer blockbuster that people were hoping for with all the hype and advertising.Especially with seeing the cowboys running out to buy a $5 foot long at Subway! It could be a while before I see this again, but that's not to say there are good things here. It's not a total loss, but not a total gain, either. Will make for a great Saturday night Blu Ray rental. So if you want to see gunslingers against phasers,I say take in a matinee and saddle up your spaceship for C&A.

"Wars are fought with weapons, but they are won by men"
The classic comic character comes to grand life in this fun filled, end to end action adventure that is a blessing to the Marvel universe.Several years ago,we were given a terrible low budget attempt that was a complete and utter embarrasment. But now in 2011,Captain America:The First Avenger is a real joy in this somewhat multtled and overstuffed summer season.Meet The First Avenger.
Set during the height of World War II,we meet hardcore patriot Steve Rogers.Who means very well, but has a less then useful physique to fill the uniform. After being turned down for service,he vollenteers for a secret government program creating the newest "super soldier"Of course Rogers is more then anxious to be the first. And that leads us to the creation of the classic super hero.Seeing him as a bit of a billboard,he is dubbed by his commander(Tommy Lee Jones)and others in company as Captain America.Sporting plenty of weapons and the trademark shield,he is unleashed against the nazis and their latest leader of evil The Red Skull(Hugo Weaving)
Captain Amaerica put me in the frame of mind of Indiana Jones.Great action, amazing stuntwork, and I am so glad this was set where CA belongs, during the war.Being in the works for a long time, the feel of the comic is right here at home. And for those who don't already know, this is supposed to be a lead in for next years The Avengers.STAY during the end credits to have your first look at the eagerly awaited Avengers!Great trailer!
And Captain America was a fun and straight forward rollercoaster ride. Those who remember the comic series will definately find much to take home here.Weaving was perfectly cast as the Red Skull.Directed with style and a good sense of humor, the film is one where you do not want to miss a single moment. No,not ace perfect, but one of the best I've seen this summer. So much so,that I'm considering going back a second time.Highly recommended, and sounding a tad corny, makes you happy that Rogers is on the right side!
"I think it works!"
