Barbara German drama film directed by Christian Petzold. Starring Nina Hoss as Barbara. The film was shown at 62nd Berlin International Film Festival in February 2012 where Christian Petzold won the Silver Bear for Best Director. This is German entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar award at the 85th Academy Awards.

Barbara (Nina Hoss) a doctor in the East Germany of 1980. She receives punishment for an application to emigrate to the West Germany, she has also been removed from prestigious a position in Berlin and banished to a hospital in the rural provinces. She plans to elope with her lover in West Germany, meanwhile being harassed by Stasi official Schütz (Rainer Bock). An idealistic and handsome colleague Andre (Ronald Zehrfeld) becomes her love-interest.

As I played this film on, I couldn't stop it. It went smooth like gush of wind, amazing picturesque landscape, tidy locations and elegant characters; in our regional language Sindhi it is said "Few grains in a dish, look good". This proverb truly applies for Barbara, where you have countable characters, who uphold the beauty of unlocking tensionizing story about a woman stuck in her struggle to escape, who should she trust?

    Worth your time!

Interesting subject matter, but I'll have to wait for a DVD release since the theaters around my home time don't show independent films. It sounds terrific.
