Large Marge sent me a message, and it told me to watch this.
Pee-Wee's Big Adventure holds dear to everyone's heart as a cult classic, and really put the character Pee-Wee Herman on the map. However, to me, this movie seems to only show slightly the potential that Pee-Wee has to show, I feel this movie could've been much funnier. For one, the plot is a little ridiculous, Pee-Wee goes on an adventure to find his bicycle? Huh. Another thing is that after a while, you start to think that Pee-Wee starts to come off as a little annoying with his oblivious shenanigans and child like vocabulary, with the exception of a "crappy" slip near the beginning. Although, if I had no idea who Paul Reubens was or had I not seen any of his work before this, I would probably give this film a better score, since I know Reubens can be very funny. Would I consider this a cult classic? Well, yes and no, this movie is what put Pee-Wee Herman on the map, and it is overall an enjoyable movie, but I wouldn't put this movie among movies such as Toy Story, The Godfather, or My Fair Lady, to name a few other classics.
I recommend this movie to pure Pee-Wee Herman fans, and to anyone who wants to see one of Tim Burton's earliest movies.
