Is Tarsem ever going to make a movie that delivers on the promise that "The Fall" showed? (Yeah, I know, it's a polarizing movie, but it was probably his most fully-realized effort.) This isn't a bad movie by any means (it's actually pretty good), but it's extremely predictable, and not just because it's based on the Snow White story. The humor is pretty obvious, and it does my personal least favorite comedy thing ever: it highlights whatever funny thing happens by having a character SAY something that more or less spells out what happened. Future Filmmakers of America, take note: THAT'S NOT FUNNY. I think the dialogue is the movie's biggest problem; some of it is absolutely atrocious. Everything else about it is pretty solid (and oh my goodness it looked INCREDIBLE), and it's definitely a better pick for impressionable young women than anything with the word "Twilight" in it. At least the love interest here is actually cute. - Originally reviewed 4/14/12
