![]() I skipped Taken when it was in theaters a few months back, but am thinking about renting it when it hits DVD and Blu-Ray next week. Since a lot of my RT friends seemed to enjoy it, I'm kind of interested now. ![]() I'm not for sure what this Seth MacFarlane release is, but I've been a huge fan of Family Guy ever since it first came out, and I like MacFarlane's comedy style. So I'm looking forward to this release next week. ![]() Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is something you can go ahead and skip. I didn't care much for this film, much like I didn't care for the second film in the series. As far as I'm concerned, the first Underworld is the only one that is remotely worth seeing. |

![]() The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, along with The Reader, was a film I skipped in theaters because it looked like Oscar bait to me. But I'm beginning to think that I might have missed out on a pretty good film, so I'll be checking it out next week when it comes to DVD and Blu-Ray. ![]() Last Chance Harvey was a film that I was desperate to see when it was in theaters, but couldn't find one that was showing it. So I'm finally getting my chance to see this film next week, and I hope that the wait was worth it. ![]() I know that Neil Marshall isn't everyone's cup of tea lately, especially with last year's Doomsday (which won Best Guilty Pleasure at this year's ThirdMan Awards), a film that was almost universally hated by a lot of my RT friends and favorite critics alike. Dog Soldiers was his first film, and one of the best werewolf movies I have ever seen. It is great that it's coming out on Blu-Ray (as well as a new DVD release) next week. And since I am switching a lot of my favorite movies from DVD to Blu-Ray, I will be picking up the Blu-Ray of Dog Soldiers next week... and am looking forward to it. |

CURRENT RATINGS:
![]() On a restless Saturday night, I spent some time flipping through the channels and stumbled on Cleavagefield, which is a soft core parody of the surprise hit Cloverfield. It's probably not worth an effort to review the film, considering that it really isn't a movie at all. But with how ridiculous the premise is used, and just how awful the experience turned out to be, I can't help but do a little ramble on this flick. Soft core porn, or cable porn as I call it, is a very confusing genre of film to me. I imagine that if someone is interested in seeing porn, they should spend the time and/or money on actual porn. It's weird to me that there is an audience for these sorts of films, which really feature none of the goods, but double all of the bad qualities that make some movies just difficult to get through. For one, none of the sex in this movie is at all exciting. And none of the actors are really that attractive looking, and when they speak it just gets worse. If you have seen Cloverfield, Cleavagefield follows the same story with a bunch of people having a party when a monster emerges from the ocean and starts to rampage. The only difference is that the monster in this film looks like something from a kid's show, and instead of running into people who are willing to help this group of people, they run into people who want to get busy. The sex scenes are filled with that cheap and annoying music that all of these movies have, and the scenes are filmed horribly. There is one scene where one of the male characters is filming two females fooling around, and they suggest he join them. He sits the camera down and does so, but magically the camera starts to move around and zoom in and out on the action. I know I shouldn't get picky with the filming techniques used in a soft core film, but I couldn't help but question how this camera was able to do this. About the only thing in this film that I found mildly humorous was the song that plays at the end of it, called "Pussy Pussy Bang Bang." Don't get me wrong, it's a terrible song, but it was the only thing in this film that stuck with me long after I turned off the television. |

![]() Hotel for Dogs came and went rather fast in the early part of this year, and it received mixed reviews by critics. But a lot of my RT friends seemed to enjoy the film, so I'm giving it a curious rental when it hits shelves next week. ![]() I still feel this animated version of X-Men is the best adaptation of the comic book series. I watched this show religiously when it first came to television, and have been waiting for the day that it came to DVD so I could finally own the series and watch it whenever I wanted. I will be buying these first two volumes of X-Men The Animated Series next week. |

X-Men the animated series along with the Spider-Man series were two of my favorite cartoons as a kid. I never really watched them a ton because I was only about five but I loved the show when I got a little older. I still watch it from time to time on Toon Disney. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I really liked the Spider-Man animated series as well. Back then, there were a lot of great animated superhero series out there. X-Men, Spider-Man and Batman The Animated Series were awesome watches when I was younger, and still are just as great watching them today. 0 Replies | Report Abuse X-Men the animated series along with the Spider-Man series were two of my favorite cartoons as a kid. ![]() The Wrestler didn't end up being on my Top Ten Favorite films of 2008, but it still contained my favorite leading actor performance with Mickey Rourke as an aging wrestler. Wrestling doesn't appear to be a topic that would make for great dramatic movie making, but it does in Daren Aronofsky's film. ![]() Another idea that didn't seem like it was going to make for a great film is the idea of watching two men in an interview. But Rob Howard manage to make the famed 1977 interview between former President Richard Nixon and t.v. personality David Frost into one of the most thrilling movies of 2008. Great performances by the films two leads Frank Langella as Nixon, and Michael Sheen as Frost. ![]() I skipped Notorious in theaters because the idea of making a film based on the life of the late rapper Christopher 'Biggie Smalls/Notorious B.I.G.' seemed like a bad idea. But I've heard that while the film is flawed, Notorious has some great performances, especially by Jamal Woolard as Wallace. So I will be checking this out when it hits DVD and Blu-Ray next week. I'll definitely be picking up The Wrestler this Tuesday and I'll rent Notorious. I also passed on the film but I kind of regret doing that now. By The Way have you seen The Reader, It wasn't that bad in my opinion and Kate Winslet was phenomenal in the film. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I ended up buying The Reader, and probably will watch it either tomorrow or Saturday. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I'll definitely be picking up The Wrestler this Tuesday and I'll rent Notorious. CURRENT RATINGS:
![]() When it comes to zombie movies, I take them rather seriously. That is why whenever a comedic one comes along I am a bit hesitant to see it. For every successful comedy zombie movie like Shaun of the Dead, we get something like Dead and Breakfast, which is anything but funny. I've seen a couple other Japanese zombie flicks, and so far they have all been unusual but highly entertaining. So Tokyo Zombie quickly moved up to the top of my Netflix queue. Tokyo Zombie, written and directed by Sakichi Sato (who America mostly knows as playing "Charlie Brown" from Kill Bill Vol. 1), isn't a great comedy. In fact, the movie opens up with a rather lackluster opening, and the jokes in the film don't improve much from there. But there was something about the two actors playing the bumbling idiot duo of the film that made Tokyo Zombie a breeze to get through. Tadanobu Asano (who played a young Genghis Khan in last year's Mongol) switches gears and plays Fujio, a dimwitted employee at a fire extinguisher factory. Along for the ride is Sho Aikawa as Mitsuo, a bald-headed judo enthusiast. Together, the two become an unlikely heroic duo when the streets of Tokyo (and possibly the world) are overrun by the living dead, and both were rather enjoyable to watch in the film. There are a lot of bizarre moments in Tokyo Zombie that while not sidesplitting funny are at least memorable. There are an awful lot of perverted characters in the beginning of the film, who all seem to have an attraction to younger people. Somebody uses a machine gun that shoots fecal matter and urine at people. And there is a little ditty that one of the characters sings about having stomach cancer, since singing about it is easier than just talking about it, that was unusual but funny. I thought to myself that this film would have worked better as a comic, which was not too far off of an idea since Tokyo Zombie originally started off as a manga. Overall, Tokyo Zombie is a middle of the road kind of movie from whatever genre you are looking at it from. It's a so-so comedy, an alright buddy flick and a decent horror movie. Nothing groundbreaking, but certainly nothing necessarily horrendously awful here. |

There isn't anything coming to DVD and Blu-ray next week that I have interest in buying, but there are a couple titles that I think I will at least rent.
![]() The Reader was one of the most contested movies to receive Oscar nominations this year. I didn't have much interest in seeing it when it was in theaters, but since Kate Winslet finally won an Oscar with her performance in The Reader, I'll check it out next Tuesday. ![]() I've heard that Frank Miller's film adaptation of The Spirit didn't capture what made the series so memorable. It bugged me how this film was shot in the same style that the Sin City movie was done in, but the great cast (though I heard they are for the most part terrible in their performances) has sparked my interest to at least rent this film next week. |

I'll also be renting both next week. I'm more interested in seeing The Reader than The Spirit but I'll see both of them. I saw that you had Tokyo Zombie on your Upcoming Reviews. I rented the film yesterday and the copy they had was region 2, how terrible is that? I didn't even realize this until I got home and was going to watch it. 0 Replies | Report Abuse That sucks about the region 2 disc. Did they have a region 1 disc, or were you at least able to get your money back or swap it for another movie? 0 Replies | Report Abuse They didn't have a region 1 disc and I did get my money back. They had no clue what I was talking about with region 1 and 2. They thought I was crazy. So I dumbed it down for them and told them it wouldn't play on my DVD player. So I guess I'll have to Netflix it or something. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I'll also be renting both next week. I'm more interested in seeing The Reader than The Spirit but I'll see both of them. ![]() I couldn't find a theater that was in reasonable distance to where I live that was showing Doubt, so I had to pass on seeing it in theaters. So now that it is hitting DVD and Blu-Ray next week, I'll finally get around to seeing it. ![]() Some films just shouldn't be remade, and The Day the Earth Stood Still is one of those films. But, I'm curious to see how this film plays out, even though I have expectations that it will be complete garbage. As a bonus though, this DVD/Blu-Ray release comes with a copy of the original film. ![]() Donkey Punch wasn't a perfect movie, but I enjoyed it when I saw it a couple of weeks ago. It's weird how fast movies go from theater to DVD these days, but whatever. This film isn't worth owning, but I feel it is at least worth renting. |

There is actually a decent amount of films coming out next week that I am interested in checking out, including some of the films from the recent 8 Films to Die For series, Cthulhu, Marley and Me and even Nickelodeon's Spectacular!. But I'm only going to focus on the two films I'm actually looking forward to.
![]() I think in my review for Clerks 2, I expressed my love for Rosario Dawson. Even though this is a film mainly featuring Will Smith, who I like as an actor, I'm really looking forward to seeing her in a good dramatic role. I missed Seven Pounds in theaters, so I will be checking it out when it hits stores next Tuesday. ![]() What else can anyone say about Slumdog Millionaire that hasn't been said already? It was my third favorite film of 2008, and one of the most eagerly anticipated releases I've had with any movie coming out on DVD or Blu-Ray so far this year. I'm looking forward to revisiting with this absolutely fantastic movie next week. |

![]() So I understand that Quantum of Solace isn't a worthy follow-up to the surprisingly well made Casino Royale, but I want to see it regardless. See, I love the character of James Bond. And as long as they keep making films with him in them, I will keep seeing them. ![]() I'm usually not sold on Disney animated movies these days, unless Pixar is involved somehow. So that is the reason why I passed on Bolt in theaters. But with all the praise it has gotten with certain critics and RT users I admire, and the numerous award nominations it has received, I'm interested in seeing it when it hits DVD and Blu-Ray next week. ![]() So the live action Watchmen movie has hit theaters, and I didn't feel it lived up to everyone's expectations. Part of the reason why I didn't like it as much as the graphic novel was the exclusion of the "Tales of the Black Freighter" comic segments. But now they have found their way to DVD and Blu-Ray in this animated film, and I'm going to pick this one up to see how it plays out in animated form. Also, the Under the Hood feature on the disc seems promising as well. |

I recently haven't been watching Family Guy as much as I used to, but I loved the first three seasons. It's great having a brother who is also really interested in film because he's blind buying Taken next week and I'll get to watch it for free. I would have to agree about the Underworld movie though, even though some of my friends loved it I just thought it was decent at best.

I still feel that something like The Simpsons is a better show than Family Guy, but both are a part of my Sunday routine before I go to bed for work. There are some channels that show reruns, and if there is nothing else on that night I'll watch them. But I wouldn't o as far as to say I'm the perfect fan. I still have some problems with the show, and wouldn't hold it in the same light as I do The Simpsons.
