As bloated as it may be, Les Miserables probably does justice to Victor Hugo's novel. The film features strong performances from the star-studded cast and an impressive array of songs. I'm not really a musical person, but what appealed to me most was the fact that the narrative was conveyed through the songs, rather than having the cast randomly break out into childish and irrelevant tunes that have no real bearing on the overall story. As well as being enjoyable to watch and listen, it really brought out the emotional moments in the story and the characters. Hooper's direction is also praiseworthy, with great cinematic shots as well as small scale camera work. Jackman is probably the one who really holds the whole show together, making Les Miserables an unforgettable experience, even though you'll probably only see it once!
