The first half of this highly hyped film is good and interesting. But, when they finally get to the titular point of the film (the Hunger games), the events that play out are silly, random, and dull.
What takes place during the Games basically has Katniss sleeping up on tree branches and shooting some arrows at other characters that haven't tried to be friends with her every now and then for the entirety of the contest- there's really not much focus on the survival aspect and all other related aspects of the game that the movie spends what felt like over an hour talking about beforehand. For those reasons, I think it could have been more interesting if the perspectives of other "tributes" were shown, not just Katniss'. The action is very violent and so is the shaking camera (never really stops shaking for the entire movie, just goes up and down like a wave), but it is also very quick and edited so as to receive a PG-13 rating (and more money).
Generally, this movie is generic in all aspects and the CG, I thought, was pretty bad; but I enjoyed the first half of the movie. So, there is a ton of media hype for this movie and then the movie itself spends about half the movie hyping the games, and then when they finally get to it, it's very lackluster, dull, and personally has some unintentionally funny scenes. But, there is a teen romance among it all that shines through all the brutality and hardships of the Games, and I suppose that's worth enough.
