Another critic put it well "historically worthless" as little more than timelines are even remotely historically based. However, the movie has value in that it conveys the life of a CIA spy from a different perspective.
Someone who is distant, secretive, narcissistic, paranoid and just plain troubled. The suffering of his family bonds and relationships is a big focus of the movie. It is suspenseful but not in a very memorable way. Overall, not a waste of time to see if you're in the mood for it. The acting and character immersion from Matt Damon is entertaining and gripping. But overall the film is a bit of a let down if you have high expectations.
