I did not know how to feel when it was announced that they were going to reboot the Spider-Man franchise. I was a fan of Raimi's movies so I was anticapating the fourth installment in that franchise. I did not think that a retelling of a familiar story was neccesary, but I kept an open mind anyways. And I was rewarded.
This time around it is Andrew Garfields turn to play Peter Parker, and he does a great job with the role. Emma Stone is also here and plays a very likable Gwen Stacy. The rest of the supporting characters are strong as well, they include Martin Sheen as Ben Parker, Denis Leary as Captain Stacy and Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors. The Chemistry between all the characters are great specially with Gwen and Peter. The romance here is much more effective than with Tobey and Kirsten in the first Spider-Man.
The film does tend to lag in the beginning with it retteling plot points that had orginally been covered in the first trilogy. However they are done with small differences that they become tolerable. Aside from that the film goes on in a steady pace and the film becomes enjoyable from there on.
The action pieces are fun and the visual effects are top notch. The film as a whole works well and you will not regret having wasted 2 hours in seeing it.
Overall it was a pleasant surprise and I am anxiously anticapating the second installment.
