Good review! 1 Replies | Report Abuse Thanks for reading! 0 Replies | Report Abuse I've been meaning to see this for years, still haven't. Though now I have an added reason to watch this, with this movie's director Francis Lawrence directing Catching Fire. Great reveiw, though it does somewhat temper expectations. 1 Replies | Report Abuse So long as Francis Lawrence doesn't dumb down the source material Catching Fire should go without a hitch. He changed the source material for the worst. 0 Replies | Report Abuse During this movie's ending, I threw my hands in the air and yelled out to everyone, "That stupid ending completely ruined this film!" Everyone sitting around me shook their heads in agreement. Months later, I saw this movie's alternate ending and had an argument with two friends about how the alternate would have saved the film. They disagreed, and I discovered a terrible secret..... my friends were idiots. Great review! 1 Replies | Report Abuse lol Christopher! I also preferred the alternate ending, maybe they thought it was too cliched for Will Smith to survive â?? but in this case I think it would only have made the film better. It did follow the original novel ending, but just lacking in closing the movie when it ended to abruptly and the voice over. Thanks for reading. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Nice review... I enjoyed it a little bit more than you, though. Thumbs up! 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

Great review! you said it perfect. This movie was never meant to be really good. It followed on the heels of flashdance. And more than anything, it was made to sell the music. But it did sell. 1 Replies | Report Abuse The soundtrack is about all it has going for it. After viewing it I don't get what the big deal with "Footloose" is. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Great review! 1 Replies | Report Abuse Thanks Jordan! 0 Replies | Report Abuse I wasn't interested in seeing this film prior to your review, but now I really don't want to see it. Great review! 1 Replies | Report Abuse I only saw it to see what the fuzz was about. It didn't live up the good of the mouth. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Sadly, dance/music movies haven't gotten much better since 1984. They're always so cliche and usually the only good thing about them is the (hopefully) catchy music. Great review! 1 Replies | Report Abuse Haven't seen to many dance/music movies, but I'll take your word on them. If it wasn't for the soundtrack it would have nothing going for it. 0 Replies | Report Abuse It was big at the time... and that was long time ago! Tastes change and movies, too. Nice review from the today's view, Thumbs up! 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

Very well detailed review, Alex. I was absolutely enchanted by this film since I first saw it, it's one of my all-time favorites. In my criterion this is a historical satire as brilliant as ''Dr. Strangelove'', and is a very rare film without a main character to say the least. I congratulate you for your deep and densely ellaborated characterization of references. I knew of the Antonio Margheriti detail, but you're definitely a much greater knower. I know it's true this film's chapters are heavi 0 Replies | Report Abuse this film's chapters are heavily abstract with each other (particularly ''Operation Kino'', whose bar scene is too long and distracts you completely from the storyline). I also dread people who label the movie as 'zionist' when it actually explores historical redundances quite expertly, developping Nazis and French as more interesting than Americans or British. Something else I love from this film is that, because of its production values, it feels so accurate you can't help yourself but believe 2 Replies | Report Abuse I never seen "Dr. Strangelove", but read the dead serious novel which was meh. Everything in "Inglorious Basterds" is rich with depth. It's beyond the simple historical fantasy most take it for. This one film that is rich with content and social ideas. I never consider the content to be close to "zionist". It's like unfairly calling "Django Unchained" racist. 0 Replies | Report Abuse The abstract ideas do eventually developed a significant meaning in the final act. As oppose to many historical films which are played straightforward. Didn't touched upon the production values, but they are as authentic to the period it could resemble. It's almost as if that time period never disappeared at all. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Great review. Though I didn't love the film, I do think that it is misunderstand as a simple revenge flick. I'm glad that you understand that it is much more than that, as well as that Tarantino's reveals not only his self-indulgence, but also that of the audience. 1 Replies | Report Abuse I do love deeply analyzing films whether good or bad. It comforting to hear that I'm not the only one who sees it that way. Mostly it passes by everyone head. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Haven't seen this, mainly because the Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez type of movie isn't really my thing. But this is quite an in depth review, well done! 1 Replies | Report Abuse We all have those directors that don't fit into what we watch. For me it's usually anything by Roland Emmerich. Thanks for reading! 0 Replies | Report Abuse Wow, what a review! I always felt that Tarantino was a bit overrated, so I haven't been in a rush to see this. However, I just bought the Tarantino blu-ray collection. So I am looking forward to it now. 1 Replies | Report Abuse You'll have a blast with some of them. The standouts in the collection being Pulp Fiction and his debut Reservoir Dogs which are among his best. 0 Replies | Report Abuse All very well said! Highly enjoyed this film, it is currently my favorite Tarantino film. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Thanks. Reservoir Dogs is my favorite Tarantino film. This comes in a close second. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Refreshingly funny. Excellent review, mate! 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

I was a little surprised that a post-Oscar Christian Bale movie went so under the radar. I guess the movie's flaws have something to do with that. Great review. 1 Replies | Report Abuse I was quite shock too. If it wasn't for a friend of mine I would have never seen it. Mostly the flaws are to blame. My guess is that by the advertisement it appeared to be whitewashing history. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I am intrigued by this one. However, I think I'll wait. There's a lot in your review that makes me think twice on seeing it. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Yeah it's heavily one-sided and would have preferred if the events were depicted objectively. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

Great review! Haven't seen it, but a lot of this movie seems controversial, from the racism to some odd choices in music. But it looks like Tarantino pulled it off. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Tarantino often stirs controversy since he's the conventional director. I could understand the controversy if the content was racist, but it simply was not here. If you haven't seen a Tarrantino movie yet I urge you to check them out. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Great review of one of my favorite films of 2012! The controversy around the film is absolutely ridiculous. 1 Replies | Report Abuse The controversy was unjust. I felt it needed to be address. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant review! I love the way you described King Schultz's purpose as a character, as well as how Stephen shines as a more reliable antagonist than Calvin Candie. This is without a doubt the most insightful and best written review of the film I have read. You're such a magnificent writer. If you could write a review of ''Inglourious Basterds'', I'd like it very much. You've written pure gold. 1 Replies | Report Abuse I'm very honor by your kind words! I'll try to get out a review of "Inglourious Basterds" soon. I really want to re-watch it again. I still want to write about one more historical film Christine (a good of mine) told me about before getting to Tarantino. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Excellent review Alex! Django Unchained was indeed really entertaining. I am glad Tarantino won the Oscar for best original screenplay. Loved every bit of dialogue in this film! 1 Replies | Report Abuse I knew Django Unchained would win. There's absolutely no one that could write dialogue like Tarantino. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Excellent review! Truly one of the best I've ever read on RT. I disagree about your take on Foxx's performance, I thought he was settled into his role the first time we saw him with a face that completely expressed the hardships of Django's enslavement. He looked cold and defeated, yet determined to not let anyone or anything break him. Django's intelligence greatly progressed throughout the film, as did his confidence as a newly freed man. Foxx really understood what his character was abou 1 Replies | Report Abuse Wow. Thanks for the generous complement. We have to agree to disagree on Foxx. Right of the from the opening Foxx was not comfortably fitting into his empathetic and sadistic role. He did understand the character from his physical movement. Evoking him past his discomfort took time for me see pass. Once he did he was as great as the rest of the cast. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Sure. It seems that a part of my comment was chopped off. I went on to say I agreed with you about the editing. I forgot about the character limit, my bad. 0 Replies | Report Abuse This Movie in my opinion is probably the best movie of 2012, It just edges Argo to it. Tarantino hit gold in this one, and with a powerful cast like that with an irresistable Waltz, it's bound to be brilliant. Great Review, Same rating from me. 1 Replies | Report Abuse I feel the same. Argo was a blast, but this was though provoking on another level. It also had the cast I feel. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

SOUNDS AMAZING... EXCELLENT REVIEW... THUMBS UP! 1 Replies | Report Abuse It's quite an unique horror movie that must be experience. Can't say enough good things about it. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I've never seen it, heard of it though. But vampire movies never really appealed to me. This sounds interesting though, good review! 1 Replies | Report Abuse I'm generally into any kind of horror regardless of the creatures. This one happened to take something I was very familiar with into a new direction. Seeing Vampires flicks like Twilight keeps diminishing the appeal these creatures have. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Very nice review Alex! I really enjoyed the american remake Let Me In, so I will definitely check the original swedish film too. 1 Replies | Report Abuse I'm planing to see the American remake sometime soon and see how it fares against the original. Hoping seeing one version doesn't ruined the other. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

Looks good. Will see it, great review! 1 Replies | Report Abuse I hope you like it, even if it has a heavy handed message, but Washington performance makes it worth sitting through. Thanks Sarkar. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Excellent review... Robert Zemeckis is a director who plays "safe" and delivers - reliable and professional - all that seen in this movie as well! 1 Replies | Report Abuse I don't like all of Zemechis movies, but he is professional at what he does. I do tend find something to enjoy about them. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Brilliant review! Can't wait to see this when it finally come out in the UK sometime next year! Zemeckis hasn't done a good film since 2000's Castaway (debateably) so I'm looking forward to seeing him back on form, I can see this up for oscars! 1 Replies | Report Abuse I thinks so too, though I found The Polar Express to be decent than most of Zemeckis animated movies. I could clearly see Denzel Washington getting a nomination for his performance. Not sure about anything else. Thanks for reading Calum. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Great review Alex! Although Zemeckis is one of my favorite directors. Ok,the past 10 years with the 3 motion capture movies I can do without. I still liked them, but they're far from his best work. But he can combine special effects with storytelling like very few directors can and he's been doing it for years. Plus his has a versatile resume,he doesn't just stick to one genre. I liked that Flight,in the end was redemptive, and that, for me,saved the movie from being terrible. 1 Replies | Report Abuse I could have done without his motion capture film too! Zemeckis to me has a better understanding of visuals and storytelling that James Cameron use to have. I admire him doing new things, but doesn't always come out good. I agree on Flight being save in the end. In the end though, Zemeckis return to live action is exactly what the industry needed. Excellent review. This is one of those movies that I'm afraid tends to overhumanize its characters. Theey usually end up being mediocre and inconsistent, although not an ultimate fault of the actors. Been waiting a long time to see this one. 1 Replies | Report Abuse That's one of the problem this film contains as well as being too preachy at times. The actors are what really makes this film worth viewing even if the plot has some flaws. Can't wait to read your thoughts on it when you do see it Dave! 0 Replies | Report Abuse Robert Z. is great at finding cool characters that the audience can root for and he proves that yet again with this film. I travel a lot and think about that crash scene every time I fly on an airplane. The scene is so effective because you can imagine it happening to you. Despite it's turbulent ending, I thought the film was one of the best of 2012. Excellent review. 1 Replies | Report Abuse My favorite of Robert Z. character was Chuck Noland, but Whip Whitaker surpasses him. He's more complex and Washington sells it better. That plane crash alone in itself is an achievement in filming. Thanks for reading! 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

I agree, just the way the movie was shot and edited really turned me off. But it's an okay watch just to see how good Dakota Fanning was at such a young age. 1 Replies | Report Abuse I thought was the only one who didn't like it. Everyone else I know loves it. Dakota Fanning showcases talent even at a very young age surprised me. Wouldn't mind seeing her in another movie with Denzel. 0 Replies | Report Abuse This is a perfect DVD movie... nice review! 1 Replies | Report Abuse I wouldn't call it perfect, but it has an appeal nonetheless. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

Thanks! 0 Replies | Report Abuse Definitely agree,I don't love this film like some do but I can definitely see it's appeal thought it was pretty ridiculous but a lot of fun 1 Replies | Report Abuse It didn't appeal to me as much as everyone who grown up seeing it either, but it was a fun flick nonetheless. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I had a blast watching Gremlins, but I agree the human characters were just forgettable and bland. Well written review as always! 1 Replies | Report Abuse I do owe a allot credit to those Gremlins. They knew how to have a good time. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

I wanted this to be great because of all the obvious reasons concerning historical setting, characters, cast and visual style. Also because I was one of the few who loved the video game L.A. Noire, which I don't know if you've played, but is historically accurate and is just an amazing experience. Your arguments are magnificent, and even if this isn't the first-rate crime film we would have gotten under the direction of people like Chris Nolan, I expect it to be just entertaining. Brilliant revi 1 Replies | Report Abuse I played a few of video games, L.A. Noire being one of my top three favorite. It nails the feeling of being a detective; just wished everyone would stop complaining on how slow it is. As for the movie, there is lost potential in its material, but when it comes down to it was fun to watch. I hope you find enjoyment in it, even if it's not what we were hoping for. Thanks for reading Dave! 0 Replies | Report Abuse The first paragraph had me laughing! Expecially about Nolte being Brolin 25 years from now XD The movie doesn't really sound like something that I'd be interested in, but very good and entertaining review 1 Replies | Report Abuse That thought kept crawling inside my head every time he was screen. You're better off watching The Untouchables or other classic crime movies. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Very hard for me to turn off the logical part - except when Milla Jovovich is in question... ;-) Nice review, mate! 1 Replies | Report Abuse I have the same problem sometime, but even I have my own weakness. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Great review. I was really looking forward to seeing this, but I decided to avoid watching it in theaters after seeing the negative critical reception. It would be interesting to see the original cut of the film, since I have heard that it feels disjointed and that many arcs finish at odd points in the film due to the re-shooting after the tragic Colorado incident. 1 Replies | Report Abuse I'm positive the original cut probably would have not made much difference. Who knows, maybe the original cut had less action and more of a plot. Only if the studio decides to release the original version will we find out. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

Probably my favorite thing about the movie is the similarity to the Great Esacpe, as you mentioned. I don't know what it is about animated movies redoing Steve McQueen classics, this movie parodied The Great Escape and A Bugs Life parodied The Magnificent Seven. Excellent review! 1 Replies | Report Abuse I'm not sure about that either. Guess there are just certain stories that are worth telling twice. 0 Replies | Report Abuse It was fun to watch it... thumbs up for the excellent review! 1 Replies | Report Abuse It certainly was. Almost as fun as the first time I saw The Great Escape. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Great review! I agree, this is a really great film. I like your comment on how all stereotypical characters are in this film. Although, that's part of what makes it fun! 1 Replies | Report Abuse Thanks Bram! I agree. My favourite songs are "This Jesus Must Die", "Gethsemane", "King Herod's Song" and "Trial Before Pilate". The Pilate actor in here also did a great job. Nice review Alex! I have no interest in watching this at all. 1 Replies | Report Abuse I would recommend the novels. This adaptations is simply insulting to the source material. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Wow, it looked bad, but now it's confirmed! I'll keep well away from the film and the odd casting choice of Tyler Perry! Great Review! 1 Replies | Report Abuse I still give this a chance for my love of the novels. What a mistake that was. Tyler Perry doesn't do the title character justice, it's as if he intentionally took this role to anger fans of the novel. Even Morgan Freeman portrayal was closer to the novels, but still not that good. Do stay away from this, the novels are much better. Thanks for the comment Calum. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Luckily, I never heard of it... and never had a chance to waste my time on it. Well both movies are really similar. I guess it depends on what cast members or the take on the story one's wants to take first. Matt Reeves respectfully remade this horror classic. Expect the same level of care in "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes".
