Budget- 150 Million $, Gross- 333 Million+ U.S $(worldwide)
I don't really like David Fincher much, I was more disappointed by most of his films than loving some of them. Of his films that I liked, this film is one, I also liked Seven(1995) and my favourite is Fight Club(1999), which is a film that I never expected from this director. But much to my dislike, I hate Zodiac(2009) which I believe is a complete waste of time. I did not like his Alien 3 and I once tried to watch The Social Network(2010), but I fell asleep just 10 minutes into the film.
Curious Case.... tries to recreate the innocence of Forest Gump, but fails immensely. Even when Brad Pitt gives a potent and heart full performance, his character has nothing likable. Cate Blanchett is also good. There is no reason cited to why Benjamin Button aged this way. More than that, this film unnecessarily drags a lot and this film should have ended within 2 hours. There are a lot of striking similarities b/w this film and Forest Gump. But Gump was a good watch mostly due to Tom Hanks' all in all performance and a smart direction despite of the bad dialogues, here in this film, there is nothing too deep that drives you except for the cinematography and occasional fun. In the end, Curious Case ..... is extremely melodramatic, but the solid performances keep this film afloat.
You might think why I wrote down the budget and gross of this film. You see, let me ask you why a film like this need a budget of 150 million$? I say that this is just a waste of money, trying to recreate Forest Gump effect when the film never needed all of this. Also, I am dumbstruck by the American patriotism!!! From what I know, Patriotism is an easy seller in America and Hollywood. A trade ship knocks out a German submarine, so selfless and patriotic!!!! I don't know why Americans buy all these crap? When films are made in my language which try to sell extreme patriotism instead of substance, we shoo them out of the theaters. There was a film called 'Kandahar' released in 2010 on my state, it was a sort of military film which exaggerated the Indian military and tried to sell patriotism. The climax of the film had a scene about 10 minutes length where the hero's( a soldier) dead body is taken to his father along with all the military ceremonies and all. Where ever the body went, people who saw it rose up and saluted(common people)!!!! Can you believe that???? Then after 15 minutes of melodrama, the body reaches the father. Instead of crying, people were laughing and ridiculing at the senselessness shown. If this had been part of a Hollywood film, they might have even given it an Oscar!!!.
