I am really glad you like it, too. Rashomon's winning the Golden Lion in the 1951 Venice Film Festival is one of the key events of world cinema: not only did it establish director Akira Kurosawa as one of the masters of the medium, but it compelled European and American audiences to look seriously at non-Western cinemas. Thumbs up!

When this first came out in limited release I saw it, and was disappointed. I was younger then, and certainly dumber. Now these five years later, I bought the Blu-ray a year or two ago, and still haven't watched it. I kick myself everytime I think about it, but I don't want to just throw it in and watch it. I want to be in the mood, and really get the most out of it. Anyway, completely besides the point. Great review man. The acting is what I do remember liking, as well as the cinemaography.

Daniel Day Lewis is one of great living actors, while I have my reservation of your putting Paul Dano as opposite of Daniel. Daniel worships acting and disappears in his role (usually). We may only appreciate Paul Dano's efforts. I was in last of engineering class when this movie was released and it sorta left impression upon me. Good review!

Daniel Day Lewis is one of my favorite actors! Yeah, Paul Dano wasn't nearly as good as him thinking about it. Actually, sometimes Dano's acting was a little over the top for me, but overall, he did a solid work too. Nice to see this movie also made an impact on you! Thanks for reading Sarfaraz!

No doubt there is now a lack of creativity today. I guess everything that has been done in movies has already been done so they rehash things and go back to silent movies and later for ideas. Besides, the Kubrics, Hitchcocks, Lucas's, Speilbergs... they only come along just so much in a generation. Spelling may be wrong on those guys btw.

I couldn't have said any better Monsieur Rick! Original ideas and challenging films are really lacking unfortunately. There are a few directors nowadays that are very talented, but not so famous. Jessica Chastain definitely earned her nomination given her character wasn't developed much. I didn't like this in my first viewing. I thought it was a well made thriller, but being based around true events and filled with inaccuracies I couldn't stand it. Like Titanic, we all know the ending so there goes the suspense and "intensity" I would assume. But Titanic with DiCaprio was largely a love story and the ending that had to happen. In this case, we know Bin Laden is killed but that means everything to me. Its like a spoiler to know what eventually happened and to sift thru the details is just too much to handle.

Of course, the winning formula could not ignore Kathryn Bigelow who was to deliver "the story of history's greatest manhunt for the world's most dangerous man". Don't get me wrong, I had a blast watching Javier Bardem's unique performance and he really gave it all. I also liked his backstory and motivations, but I didn't really feel he was that threatening or intimidating you know. Wow...0% this must be awful! Glad I skipped it out, looked totally idiotic like the previous 4(?) in the series! Nice review!

I actually enjoyed the first film of the franchise and consider a guilty pleasure of mine. The rest is garbage. This fifth film is probably the worst film I've seen (with other crappy ones like Epic Movie)
