You'd be hardpressed to find anyone that hasn't heard of Jack annd the Beanstalk. Hollywood than grabbed Bryan Singer (X-Men) and basically said do something with it. The results are... a painfully mediocre film.
The movie is selling itself off of a visual critical acclaim and honestly I was not too impressed. CGI often looks bleak and bland with the movie itself not really having an interesting color palette to begin with. During some action sequences near the end though it did get more dazzling and impressive but we are referring to 20 minutes of a 2 hour film.
The story itself is riddled with cliches and uninteresting hollow characters. It's clearly a movie meant to watched and not really invested in story-wise. The acting is also a mixed bag but hey, Ian McShane of Deadwood fame is in it so it's not all bad. I blame the script if anything. The movie also has quite possibly the most cheesy and unnecessary cliffhanger ending ever.
Despite that , there is no aspect of the film that is actually bad. I still don't recommend running out to see it though
