Awful. Just awful. Nothing is redeeming about this movie. Not even Christopher Lee. The plot is bad, the characters are bad, the acting is bad (SORRY CHRIS!), the theme song is bad... ...I've had dicks in my mouth that were easier to swallow.
I was really looking forward to this movie because of the great cast, but... I was really hoping for more of the family doing the family business aspect. Each family member gets one big violent mafia moment, and after that it's just a lot of hand holding and feelings.
It was about what I expected. Let's face it, nothing can be Pitch Black, although this one tried really hard to be. It brought elements from the Pitch Black, in what felt like an attempt to ground this one with some sort of familiarity. But...it didn't quite work out that way. One of the great things about Pitch Black was that it Joss Whedon-ed the cast. It pick off characters you liked and cared about. In Riddick...there's no one to like, so there's no investment. Not to mention, with such a tight throwback to the original, I already knew who was making it off the planet before the characters did.
