the premise of the movie is fascinating, and it promises an intrigueing formal experiment that ends up like a pale reflection of "crimes and misdemeanors", which explored the same theme with better actors. i like will ferrell very much but seeing mutter allenesque side cracks was painful. the dinner party scenes were the most entertaining to me.
this movie has great dialogue and the actors look like real people, which is disconcerting at first- my mind is so attuned to a list perfection that it questions the reality of a movie in which people look like the people i know more than a movie with impossible handsome, plasticised, sculpted and mass produced actors. i would like to explore more john sayles movies.
