Not quite as satisfying as Yellow, this movie focusses on the state church in Sweden more than the political climate. It is still a scathing look at how the country was run in the late sixties, and I would recommend a view to anyone who is interested in foreign cinema.
Dario Argento is the king of in-your-face gore, and this movie demonstrates it beyond a doubt. The plot takes second stage to the murder scenes, which are graphic and over the top. Visually, this is one of my favourite movies; the use of colour and the shot compositions are glorious. Even the blood is practically neon!
Creepy. I laughed, I cringed, I was glued to my seat. It's nice to see horror without gore, and this one has good acting, a taut storyline... the only real problem here is the traditionally disappointing Stephen King horror ending.
I was terrified to see this movie, being a big fan of the original. However, since this one is based on the stage play, it has enough distance from said film to make it thoroughly enjoyable. The cameo appearances were great, and I can see now why Zac Efron is the big Tween Crush of the moment; he turns in a solid performance here.
