The biggest problem this movie has is that it is not The Act of Killing and didn't deserve the oscar.
The stories itself are interesting. Darlene Love is gorgeous, Lisa Fischer is too, and she and Merry Clayton just have unbelievable voices.
However, Sting of all people sums it up. Luck and chance have as much to do with success as anything. I think Merry Clayton had the drive but no luck, and the others were missing a crucial piece. I couldn't tell what take the directors had on this, did they want us to feel bad, feel good, just tell the story?
It would have made a great VH1 documentary, but, IT'S NOT THE ACT OF KILLING WHICH WAS ROBBED of its Oscar.
Think of the scariest, saddest , most fucked up Danish movie you can. This is scarier, sadder and more fucked up than that. I WANTED a spoiler because it was so tense it was making me nuts. Oh you Danes.
cate Blanchett really is that good. All the acting is. Best week ever to watch Alec Baldwin be an entitled douchebag. Peter Sarsgard is creepy now, right? docked a half star for inappropriate use of Woody Allen clarinet music.
INSANITY!! I thought I knew what this was about but I was unprepared for the scene stealing sidekick, an Indonesian cross between Divine and Joe Pesci. if this doesn't make you want to learn more about the topic, you have no natural curiosity whatsoever.
