This film was beautifully shot. That being said, we found it so disjunct and scattershot that it wandered from utter boredom to rather clever moments with a few funny one-liners sallying forth in between all the banality. All in all, we're sorry we wasted our time after all the four star reviews and big build-up.
This was a film that grew on us as it went along. Beautifully filmed (and apropos) in B&W. Will Forte was believably winsome as Bruce Dern's son. June Squibb was convincingly bitchy as the wife and mother who found redemption at the end, and the cinematography and music were both terrific.
