While I admire the effort of translating Dr. Seuss' work, I felt that the movie failed to capture the entire spirit of the tale. If you want to entertain your kids, play them the cartoon instead and don't waste your money on this movie.
There can be only one ... Spock, that is. While I have nothing against young Zach as an actor, he is no Leanord Nimoy, a fact displayed quite well in the movie. The new generation of Kirk, Uhura and Sulu seem more like idealised versions of the original characters, but still carry off their roles. Special commendation has to be given to Bones and Scotty, who were so well portrayed I could see them as younger versions of the original cast.
Concept and scriptwise, the movie was good. The writers did well to avoid trampling all over a familiar world and to introduce something without conflicts. All in all, a great watch that will have new audiences entertained and old ones reminiscing.
