Mark's Review of Macbeth

    Macbeth (1999)

Shakespeare hasn't always transferred well to the big screen, but this is one of the better efforts. A great sense of atmosphere is created through the locations and suberb camerawork. Polanski certainly did a good job in this respect. The acting is generally good and it is surprisingly easy to understand, though Jon Finch never really convinced me. He was a bit wooden in the first half though he did come to life at the end.
Sometimes the violence and gore is a bit overdone, but that may be just a matter of taste. All in all, worth seeing for the lovers of the play.
