    Gandhi (1982)

It might be one of the longest movie experiences you will ever undertake, but I assure you that Gandhi will be well worth it in the end. A star cast with lead man Ben Kingsley playing the titular Mohandas Gandhi makes this film one of the best of the decade, and Gandhi's eight Academy Awards help solidify that claim. Kingsley's well deserved Oscar for Best Actor comes from his honest portrayal of a legend. In the context of history we often forget that Gandhi was, after all, a man. He had doubts about himself, his cause, and his country's future, and it is Kingsley's best performance of his life that elevates this movie to the highest echelon of achievement. A must see for any and all who wish to understand man's capacity for greatness in the search for what is right.
