Hands down Gunn is one of the best writer/directors out there (see Slither again) though i went into this with every "ugh, fine- I'll see it" and was really surprised. So over and could give a fuck less about Marvel movies these days, the last one i remember liking was X2, but this seems more of a legit film then a fan stroke job. Kudos goes to just about every aspect (including many that are sorely horrid these days) - directing, writing, acting, CG, makeup, and story. Let me just tag makeup and practical FX again, as whoever did those need to be doing everything ever.
Not that i remember this being "good" but i sure didnt remember it being horrid. Lambert is the equal to modern day Gosling where i can only imagine the director saying "Do that line again.....oh, thats the best you can....hmm...well i ..guess thats alright"
