Neil's Review of The Usual Suspects

    The Usual Suspects

    The Usual Suspects (1995)

Not only is The Usual Suspects Bryan Singer's greatest films, it ranks among some of the best neo-noir movies of the 90s. It knows how to deceive its audience while nonetheless delivering intriguing plot twists and a highly satisfying payoff.

Excellent acting from Byrne, Postlethwaite and especially Kevin Spacey (both here and in Se7en which came out the same year).

On a technical level, the editing and cinematography were golden. While Singer's recent movies were great (yes, I also liked Superman Returns, but that's another review), none of them could really top the style he had going here.

There is little musical score to be found, but that's the usual (no pun intended) expectation in such a movie.

I highly recommend The Usual Suspects, you won't regret it.
