Don 2 delivers the goods, it is impressive all the way, but somehow feels flat. With his aim to make it bigger, Farhan Akhtar makes it relentless. He breaks rules, gives us one of the longest, full-blown action climaxes in memory post Lagaan. And yeah the Don-Roma chemistry increasingly reminds us of the other infamous pair Clarice Starling - Hannibal Lector. I'm nitpicking, don't miss it coz THE KING IS BACK!
Loss, grief, redemption, closure wrapped in a police procedural. The brave whopper at the end that brings it all together would alienate a lot of viewers as it has many critics, going by the review headings (thankfully I've stopped reading them beyond that) for me it was the aha! moment that has been a rare occurrence across the thousands of movies I've seen. Absolute delight!(A note of advice: please don't go in thinking that you are going to get a high class feature length episode of CID.
Skyfall is beautifully shot (expected from the man who made poetry out of a plastic bag blowing in the wind) and plays with some deep ideas (expected from the man who made American Beauty) but then it plays on for too long and it plays all over the place such that the central theme never gets rooted. The charm of Bond movies have always been their pulpy origins. Bond has never been about meditation, its not about Tennyson and Shakespeare and that's where probably Mr. Mendes gets it wrong. Skyfall just does not have mojo.
