A intricate web of xenophobia, racism, and flawed logic, "Crash" is a powerful chronicle of multiple people whose lives collide with one another. With some scenes that are haunting and gripping, it's primary flaw is that there are too many threads, when only 3 or 4 would have been more than enough. Nevertheless, this is a VERY good movie, and I'm glad that I saw it.
With shots as lovely as a work of art, "Badlands" is Terrence Malick's first step into the world of filmmaking, and what a step it was. Loosely based on the real-life murder spree of Charles Starkweather and his adolescent girlfriend, Martin Sheen plays Kit, a garbageman who decides that he and she are meant to be together, no matter what her father says. After killing him, the pair go on the run, killing witnesses, etc. A movie with a wonderful script, great acting, and hypnotizing awe, "Badlands" is one of the best films I have ever seen, and I assure you that it is more than worthy of your Netflix rental.
