(3 Stars) I like Jennifer Lawrence and I really like Elisabeth Shue and those are two of the reasons I like House at the End of the Street more than I should. The thing is, I know this is a pretty standard horror/thriller, but there are so many reasons I'm entertained by it. The dialogue and high school-centric plot (featuring a battle of the bands competition) make it feel like a parody of a show on the CW. There are some moments of hilarity in the editing. And there's a "deep" part where one character tells another character that there's a face in the tree and if you look hard enough, you can see it; I did not see it. I laughed... hey, it's better than being bored.
There are a few inventive twists and it's more suspenseful than it deserves to be. I wouldn't champion House at the End of the Street, but it's nice to see a horror movie that's not a remake. If you're in the right mood, you can enjoy it.
