Bay of Blood

Was it Twitch of the Death Nerve? Aka Bay of Blood.

I don't know what movie it is, but when you figure it out let me know. It sounds like something I'd like.

The twist in ADAPTATION is like no other in the movies, but it's the kind of thing you occasionally see from novels. Charlie Kauffman has a very literary style of scriptwriting; he reminds me of Jose Luis Borges. As foir the Brazil background, I always change my background to match my latest "Certified Weird" review on my blog (assuming a skin's available... there are no skins for TOTO or DEAD MAN, so I'll stick with this one for a while).

Ripping the dish off the roof would have been a fairly restrained reaction, in my opinion. Burning your house down would have really been the only way to get rid of the infection known as "Darkness". Yes, I did throw the Netflix disc away, it just felt like my duty as a movie watcher. I couldn't go back in time to stop the movie from being made, but I could stop that one disc from destroying another 90+ minutes of someone's life.

And this is coming from someone who often gets a perverse sense of enjoyment from watching the occasional awful movie...but Darkness was just too much to endure.

I'm just like you, I can't really tell you another movie about dancing that I really liked. I usually actively avoid them. The only reason I'm in a lather about The Black Swan, is because I'm an Aronofsky whore. But The Red Shoes really is an amazing piece of work, in my opinion. It's one of the few movies that I've gone online and ordered a copy of as soon as I finished watching it (I rented it from Blockbuster, unfortunately Netflix doesn't have the Criterion release on blu-ray, which is what you should see, if at all possible. The colors are amazing!).

I had my doubts about VV in the Norman role. But he displays just enough range as an actor to pull it off. Sure, a lesser known actor would have been a wiser choice (someone like Philip Seymour Hoffman would've been perfect!). But it was likely the studio's call to go with the hot actor of the moment and, luckily, it was someone with talent.

As for the film, it is what it is. Faithfully shot-by-shot through the upgraded lens of C.Boyle. Same dialogue in modern 90s context adds a neat spin. Not a complete bastardization. Compare the film to what constitutes as a "remake" nowadays, it damn near classic!

See your queue is already pretty slammed. Lemme second a few: Lost in La Mancha, Black Sunday, Let the Right one In, Lost Highway, Before Sunrise (and then Before Sunset if you liked thatun), Man Bites Dog, Evil Dead 2. My recs: Naked Lunch and Casshern for the Mind-Bending SciFi list; Gozu for a film that typifies the genres/themes/moods/techniques I prefer in viewing studies: utterly strange, most un-Hollywood, uncommon, a dab of terrifying, a few doses of ambiguity, and a taste of surreal.

Let me know if you ever have any genre specific cravings in the fields of weird. Good luck with the watching endeavor; I keep a list just for Flixsterphile recs too and it comes in great handy when I am looking for uber-specific moods and subjects that simply aren't indexed in a mainstream database like netflix or jinni.

Yeah, The Changeling is great. I was so impressed with it that I rented "The Ruling Class", another highly recommended work from the same director. I'll probably have a review of it later in the month.

I received 3 separate posts each with 3 widgets embedded. It wouldn't have been so bad if there were only 1!

Ouch, Doc! Those profile widgets tried to play 9 different songs at once when I opened my profile page! Had to delete them because of the cacophony. Nice try but there must be a setting so that the songs don't autoplay.
