Iron Man 3

Iron Man 3

(2013)

What a great film. Shane Black has created a masterpiece to add to Marvel's already amazing collection of movies. Performances were good all around and I was happy that Gwyneth Paltrow played a bigger part in the film than she did in the first two movies. The story has a very nice twist in it which I didn't expect and the film is very funny. The action was top notch, especially in the last bit of the movie. Highly recommend, I'm hopping that Robert Downey Jr. returns for a fourth Iron Man film.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

I watched this several years ago when it first came out and I have recently revisited it. What a disappointing film. Others may enjoy a action flick like G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, but I hated it. The visual effects were horrendous. You would think a big budget movie such as this one would put a lot of money into its visual effects, especially since it is a special effects driven movie. But no. The dialogue was cringe worthy and the performances were very bad (with the exception of Joseph Gordon-Levitt). I was really hoping a movie based on G.I. Joe would be very gritty but what we got was a ton of CGI action that destroyed the film. There should have been more fire fights and less CGI action. The people behind this film didn't even try to make the CGI material believable. Usually when there is far fetched material in a movie I ignore it. But this movie probably has some of the most unbelievable material I have ever seen. Overall it was very disappointing and it should definitely be skipped if you are thinking about watching it.

Life of Pi

Life of Pi

What a visually amazing film, wow! The technical crew involved in this movie did a very great job. The acting was done very honestly. Director Ang Lee definitely deserved the Oscar for best achievement in directing this year. He brought a great story, which some said was "unfilmable", to life. I have always enjoyed tales about survival. I felt that Richard Parker, the tiger, was a very human character. The only thing I would complain about would be all the talk about "god". I wish they didn't have to include that in the movie because every time Pi said something to "god" I cringed. I was happy when his father tried to discourage him from religion but he didn't succeed. But the longer I think about it the easier it is to dismiss all those "god" comments. Other than that I enjoyed this movie very much and I will definitely be revisiting it.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

This film absolutely blew me away! It is not as good as Lord of the Rings, but who cares? The Unexpected Journey had great acting, CGI, music, storytelling and direction! I watched this movie in HFR 3D and it was amazing. A lot of people have been complaining about it but I honestly don't see the problem. It added another dimension and drew you into the world of Middle Earth with great smoothness. I highly recommend this film and watch it in HFR 3D if you can, I can't wait for part two!

Skyfall

Skyfall was amazing! Javier Bardem was one of my favourite bond villain's to date. It was cool seeing James Bond being kind of out of it from being out of the field for 3 months. Sam Mendes didn't miss a beat directing this film. The only thing I would have improved was the music, there wasn't enough of it. But really that's a very minor flaw. It was so much fun to watch I can't wait for the home video release and the next Bond film!
