Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012)

A bit of an odd movie, that I wish I had an introduction to before walking into the theater knowing nothing about it. Typically I prefer the "cold" approach so I judge it solely on the movie itself, however this one caught me off guard.

It's a story told by a six-year old girl that is often referred to in a male tense. She tells the story in a docu-fantasy style with the scattered thought. Deeply sunk in a local culture that appears to thrive in a near-homeless sustainable lifestyle. Folklore and fantasy pops in and out frequently as it would in a child's mind.

"There once was a hushpuppy that lived with her daddy in the bath tub, who stood up to the horn-faced hogs.‚ If there was a moral of the story would be ‚Face your fears and take control of your life and your destiny."
