    Nikita (La Femme Nikita)

    Nikita (La Femme Nikita) (1990)

A cool late 80's early 90's film with a soundtrack and costume design that suits this film perfectly and could only exist and work in the time it was made. So in that sense it's very unique. It's about a teenage junkie who participates in the robbery of a pharmacy with her friends. But it goes wrong and a gun fight against the local french police ensues. Nikita suffering severe withdrawal symptoms murders a policeman and is sentenced to life in prison. In prison, her captors fake her death and then give her the choice to become an assassin or fill the empty plot at her grave. The movie flows naturally and interestingly, not a frame is wasted and it has which is now one of my favorite movie openings ever. I didn't care about the love story as much as was meant to. I believed these people loved each other but how it started always bothered me. The movie is full of great characters and they all have cool entrances. I'm not sure if the subtitles are completely correct on the Blu Ray as the subtitles in the movie and in the clips on the special features are something completely different. Strong female characters are rare in cinema and Nikita is definitely one to remember. Not a single misstep in terms of acting. A quality action thriller.
