    Shutter Island

    Shutter Island (2010)

Shutter Island takes place over the course of three days and follows a World War II veteran and now federal marshal Teddy Daniels played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Who along with his new partner is sent to Shutter Island to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a patient. The movies strongest trait is how ambiguous it is. The first time i saw it in the theater I enjoyed it as a mystery thriller with a couple of scares and a good story. The second time around I found that knowing how the story unfolds, you watch it in a completely different light and notice things you wouldn't pick up on with the first viewing. The movie definitely needs two watches to be fully appreciated. It doesn't feel like a Martin Scorsese directed movie but thats not much of a fault. It has a hitchcock/Kubrick feel at times which gives it a sense of class and sophistication. The film creates a great atmosphere and is very ominous. A great creepy psycho-horror that would be more enjoyable to watch with a friend so you can share opinions. It's not as emotionally involving as i'd like it to be. There's more I'd like to mention but I don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it. A great movie directed by the greatest filmaker living today. Give it a watch.
