A solid remaking of one of the most unpleasant films of the 80's. Elijah Wood and Nora Arzender are both great. Written by the great horror duo of Alexandre Aja &Gregory Lavasseur (HIGH TENSION, HILLS HAVE EYES, PIRANHA) directed Franck Khalfoun (the underrated P2). Now, about that ending.
Is this different from the typical teen horror fare? Yes. Is the film well made? Yes. Yet this film from 2006 (the story behind its endless shelving is way more fascinating than the film itself) that got released in 2013 still leaves an ugly taste, given its standard first half, and then its damn near offensive follow up. Mandy Lane treads a very fine line between horror chilche and social commentary, yet comes across as a cold cynical work. Director of this later did the far superior THE WACKNESS & WARM BODIES.
