The only negative, if I had to point one out would be some of the dialogue was a bit weak. Other than that one small complaint, I really enjoyed this movie. The visuals were amazing. One critic says yawn, well I certainly was entertained. Even Tom Cruise did a good job. It wasn't hard to predict the direction of the story but the imagery overshadows all other aspects of the movie, be them good or bad. Like making a cool movie out of the documentary Planet Earth.
Inhuman Resources takes all the great aspects of horror and gives it an Office Space vibe. While still a horror movie all the way, it has just the right amount of underlying humor to give it a lightness given the characters situations. Not a horror comedy by any means, aka Shaun of the Dead. There is plenty of blood and guts to go around, plus some pretty gruesome deaths. The acting is good and the story is engaging enough to keep you captivated and wondering what will happen next. To top it off there was a decently cool ending.
Yes there are people who make comparisons between this movie and Jaws. Piranha being the coat-tail riding, low budget B version. While it hardly comes anywhere close to comparing with the awesomeness that is Jaws, it was a decent movie. Instead of the slow tension building nature of Jaws, Piranha is just in your face from the beginning. There is no real mystery...you fall in the water and you will be immediately eaten by piranha. The acting is decent enough and the makeup and effects are done well. One random comment though, I swear there must have been a dedicated library of cheesy 80's music back in the day that all movies with summer camp scenes used.
This movie had all the potential in the world. It's a shame it was rather terrible. Very poor writing and directing brought such a good cast way down. I can only assume they were able to get such big names because they thought this might be the next Resident Evil, which is now a huge franchise. I highly doubt there would be another one after this dud. The effects were about the only aspect that was enjoyable, especially the transitions from light to the darkness.
I found V/H/S 2 to be much better than the first movie. They must have had a higher budget this time around because the effects were top notch. Watching a movie with a shaky camera mostly annoys me but it was something that could be overlooked this time around. Loved the bike ride in the park zombie tape! The bionic eye tape was pretty good as well as the Asian cult one. Didn't care too much for the last one with the kids.
