    John Carter

    John Carter (2012)

I must say I was pleasantly surprised. This isn't the disaster everyone was making it out to be (although it did of course lose a ton of money). The movie could have used a better lead, but Kitsch wasn't horrible, just adequate. Love all of the character actors used for this, plus loved seeing Caesar and Mark Anthony together again (Ciaran Hinds and James Purefoy of "Rome," - and also Polly Walker), even if they sadly don't have much to do. I feel bad kinda for Sab Than; seriously, what the fuck did he do? Weird seeing McNulty as the big bad. I think the movie was missing a few little narrative details; needed a little more on the limits of John Carter's powers, a little more time fleshing out McNulty and Ciaran Hinds' character, and needed to drop the Disney thing of having comic relief companions - the whole character of the daughter of the chief alien didn't work at all for me.
