I was alarmed when I saw in the trailer that Carey Mulligan would be playing opposite Leo diCaprio ...how did Leo ever agree to THAT? I did not find her believable as a love interest to Gatsby for one solid second. The general public knows diCaprio enjoys the models and exotic beauties of the world ... and Mulligan can't match his screen presence. Now that I have that out of my system, I watched the film today, hoping to be wrong. I was not. I don't know why diCaprio agreed to do this film. It was like a long music video. Each scene was highly stylized, choreographed and costumed while we listen to tunes like Bang Bang by will I am, Back to Black by Amy Winehouse and countless other songs by Florence and the Machine and Jack White for example. But all the grandeur could not make up for a very think adaptation of Fitzgerald's novel. It was like a love triangle between adolescents, overly melodramatic and almost comical in parts. Leo, please don't do that again.
