Personally I'm not a martial arts enthusiest nor a manga nut but this film I thought was incredible. The story is told through the un-named hero (jet Li) giving an account to his emperor of his dealings with assasins he was supossed to hunt down. The photography and chorography was stunning and the whole film was beautifully shot in bright and wonderful colour. As each new tale is told by the hero it is filmed in a different colour (red, blue, yellow, white etc.) The acting and fight scenes are inspiring. The scenery was gorgeous. What more could I need? Oh yes, music. The music was also very beautiful similar to that of "Crouching Tiger"'s mornful cello melody. It was very excellent film. now why cant hollywood come up with stuff like this all the time? If you liked "Crouching Tiger" then I recommend watching this.
I'm not a huge fan of Woody Allen but I do like to sit down now and again to one of his classics. I saw this the other day and was very impressed. The film is very beautifully shot completly in black and white, contains lovely shots of New York City and wonderful light versus dark pictures. Compared to other Woody films this one was alot more experimental. Like alot of his films he fallows a small band of characters and their romantic adventures around NY. Woody once again playing that classic nurotic eccentric that we never seem to get sick of. This film, however concentrates more on the views of the city and the aesthetic features of the black and white shades. Exploring more of the city then perhaps other Woody films tend to. Wonderful to watch with a nice happy ending altough worth watching on a large screen to fully enjoy the scenery and arty shots. Watch Annie Hall if you get sick of the Black and White but I never really did.
A pretty all round good movie. Kinda reclaimes the glory days of when you ran around the back garden pretending you were Batman and Superman. What I really liked about it was that it never got cheesy which is big fear of mine with kids films. However, Pixar are excelent at creating movies that everyone can enjoy and they are very good at it. I also liked the family issues creeping in, the themes of "being special" and the perfect timed tongue-in-cheek moments. I only give it a seven really because its not a film that will inspire you or change your life in any way but its an entertaining film and I think sometimes we (especially me, I search for original or profetic films all the time) forget that its ok to be just entertained sometimes. Worth taking the kids to but its not a film the parents, or teenagers for that matter, will fall asleep in either.
Before watching this film I had only really watched one french film and really wasn't fully into the style yet. However, once this film finished playing on my player I was an addict! The perfect screenplay, flawless direction and eccentric story drew me in all the way. I love the colour in the film, the bright greens and reds. I also liked the random crazy scenes and abnormal characters. Its such a break from the cliche Hollywood movies. Makes you feel good about being weird and makes life slightly more bariable. I think that a good film is when your happy it makes you sad and when you're sad it makes you happy. That is the defenition of a good film!
