My Wife is a Gangster is a comedy straight of of South Korea starring Shin Eun Kyung as Mantis, a leader of a notorious gang, who due to the wish of her dying sister, is forced to not only marry, but to also have a baby, all while trying to keep her job secret. It is unique and has some hilarious parts, mixed in with a few fight scenes. It is very different than most comedies and is very original, which I am sure is the reason Miramax bought the rights to make an American remake to it. I was pleasently surpised by this little film and will now have to check out the sequel.
Sonny Chiba is a bad ass, I mean what other man can castrate a rapist with his kung fu skills. The movie was a hell of a lot of fun and has put me in the mood for Kill Bill Volume 2. I am definatley going to have to check out the sequels now.

Fists of the White Lotus stars Gordon Lui; Johnny Mo, leader of the Crazy 88, in Kill Bill Volume 1 and Pai Mei in Kill Bill Volume 2. In this movie he plays Hong Wen-Ting, a man seeking revenge against Pai Mei(Lieh Lo), who killed his best friend. He must learn a new style of Kung Fu in order to combat Pai Mei's weightlessness. It has some great fight scenes, especially the ones with Pai Mei. One thing I should note is that Pai Mei is probably one of the most bad ass movie characters ever, when he is not fucking people up with his exploding heart technique, he is running his hand through his goatee and laughing at his enemy's kung fu skills. It is a very simple movie, but oh so fun to watch.

I thought it was funny, but nothing great, overrated one may say. Then, when this hit theater, my friends said it was shit, horrible, etc, So I steered clear of it. Well, when I finally checked it out tonight, I had really low expectations, which I think helped me enjoy myself so much that I came out liking this movie, quite a bit actually.
Its about a vacation island that gets tortured by a psychotic killer. Yeah, that is pretty much it.
It is essentially making fun of the slasher genre while also showing lots of love for it. It is easy to make comparisons to last year's Cabin Fever (which just barely missed being on my top 10 list of 2003), which was a better movie than this, but it would be unfair because all Jay Chandrasekhar is trying to do is make one kickass disposable funny slasher flick, that you can probably get drunk to and have a great time.
The movie is almost made by its characters, you have Coconut Pete(Bill Paxton), who runs the island, and is also pissed off at Jimmy Buffet for claiming that he stole the idea for "Margaritaville" from his song "Pina Colada-burg." Then you have Jay Chandrasekhar as the cocky British tennis star who tries to kill the killer with his serve. Each character has something that makes them particularly hilarious.
The film is close to a 6/10, but I seriously had so much damn fun I have to give a 7/10. This will go down as one of the most underrated films of 2004, and will be a big hit once it hits video/dvd much like Super Troopers did.
Finally saw Y Tu Mama Tambien(JS is probably going to say something about how long it took me to see it), and I loved it. The charolastra tattoo(lightning bolt on the back) is now on my list of possible film related tattoo's that I might get.
