Although I found this to be mildly entertaining, and not too difficult to endure, I can't deny the fact that it's ultimately an incompetent mess. It feels like a Golan & Globus production as directed by Tommy Wiseau (for anyone who doesn't get those references, please look them up... you won't be disappointed), though the ultimate result is a bit less fun than the fantasy collaboration implies. For a "grown-up" fairy tale, I was surprised that the story was so thin, and the bulk of the tale seemed to be crammed into the final 15 minutes, with some inexplicable plot twists and some of the worst direction/editing choices I've ever seen. It's somewhat worth watching if you're curious, but I wouldn't expect too much...
I've seen this a few times, but only recently have I come to fully appreciate it. It's absolute genius, completely deserving of its cult status. The songs are fabulous, Tim Curry is as outstanding and as iconic as they can get, and every moment of it is pure, wicked fun.
