When you throw Frank Miller into a movie, you really don't know what to expect now-a-days. He's really all over the place since he kinda has no idea how to transfer something from paper to celluloid. The fact he tries to take most of the credit for the Sin City movie is retarded, we all know he was just the creative supervisor for Rodriguez. I'll admit, Frank Miller is one of the best out there for Graphic Novels, but god damnit the Spirit was really random and dumb. He had a good cast, and somehow went wrong. I honestly blame his writing for it. I want to start off by saying that Scarlett Johansson should win the award for worst acting of 2008 for this movie. She is just horrible in this movie. Yeah she's kind of pretty, but jesus christ the line is drawn and overstepped here. The black lipstick makes us focus on her jacked up teeth, bet you never noticed right? That's because you're always staring at her tits you freaks. I never really ever drooled over her, I always found her okay but c'mon....she looks high when she acts. I wanted to see how much it resembled Sin City and vice versa because of how well done Sin City was. Well the animation is okay and all, but the movie still sucks. Sam Jackson randomly will walk around in a samurai costume, then in a nazi costume, then in a scientist costume. It could very well be from the novel, but since it's not explained at all...so you're left confused. Not to mention when Sam hits the Spirit with a toilet, laughs, and says, "C'mon, Toilets are always funny!" What the fuck?...I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. This is the kind of movie I'd tell you to stay away from, but it's so bad it's funny. I know it's part comedy, but when it makes fun of itself..then you're just asking for a world of hurt. It's really campy, random, and boring. The flashy animation elements barely keep this afloat in the sea of failure. Not to mention the acting is completely awful. So do what you want with this flick, just take my advice and see it for free if you see it at all.
