I remembered seeing this movie and thinking it was good, so when I got it on laserdisc I told myself THIS IS A GOOD MOVIE; but I did not remember everything about this. I really enjoyed this movie the second time around. It has a couple of different story lines, but the major one is his homosexuality and his struggle between his love for god and his love another man. The story is not powerful but just interesting and captivating.
Based on the description given to me by Netflix, I was under the assumption that daddy and daughter (possessed by mommy) were gonna get it on... BLAH! No one got it on and I was a little sad. The concept of movie was awesome. Mom and daughter were in a car accident, mom's soul or spirit is transferred into the daughter's body and mom dies. Almost like a Freaky Friday, the mom living in her daughter's body finds out the good and the bad of her daughter's life and begins to understand teenagers.
Although the movie was good, it was slow moving and very hard to fit into a category other than drama. There was no thrill, it wasn't a mystery per se, nor was it a supernatural movie. I wish there would have been more of a mystery to solve of why the mother was inhabiting her daughter, but there wasn't and mom just kinda went away after "understanding" her daughter but doing drugs. Lame, yes... Overall, the movie did not suck and I would recommend as a kill time kinda movie.
A little light humor for the afternoon. I normally not a fan of Gene Wilder, but the movie was not as horrible as I thought it was going to be. Good jokes without being overly stupid and corny. An overall good story, with an fun song and dance number in the middle. I did not rate it higher because I wasn't laughing out loud anywhere in the movie. I need to have a couple good belly laughs to give above a 3 star.
I surprising really liked this movie. It had tons of adventure without going overboard and it didn't take themselves to seriously. The chemistry with the characters was right on. Overall it was a treat to watch over two days on my lunch breaks at work. This is the first of my "worktime flicks" for 2011. Gonna watch Jewel of the Nile tomorrow on laserdisc.
Tuesdays in January, we are dedicating to animation films and we started off with The Black Cauldron. Elisabeth had seen before, but I had been wanting to see this for a while now even though we own it. Adventurous and entertaining, this was an enjoyable movie although it lacked a triumphant finale. There was a lot of build up for a let down at the end. The animation was not up to par for a Disney film, the characters seemed to look cut out and places on top of backgrounds and you could see what objects were going to move before they did as those items did not blend into picture. Again, everything in the foreground seemed have a weird outline to it. Story wise, it was good... animation was just too poor for us to give it a higher rating.
