Clever dialogue, lots of beefcake, but still this misses the mark for me in that it does not venture from the stereotypical characters and worn out, tired and all too predictable "boy gets girl" story. I saw the great reviews and had high hopes that this would hit a home run, but it is more like a double.
I have to agree that, although I loved the movie, this is a slightly better remake of the same old story. Seems that Hollywood could spend its money on fresh ideas or bringing new superheroes to the screen instead of putting so much time and effort into a remake. Why not have the same cast and crew work on something original? Sad to think that they believe we are not receptive. This movie is top notch; had it been original I would be raving.
Lots of faults with this movie for sure, but it is exactly why I want to go to the theater. I want to see crazy stuff blow up and look really cool. I want characters that I can like or hate or laugh at or love. Unrealistic....yes, of course...but not as unrealistic as 10-foot tall blue people on a planet where mountains float. I saw Prometheus first because it had such great reviews, and this movie puts that one to shame in terms of heart and emotion and character.
Thought I would love it, but this thing just meandered around and went nowhere. Very dark and tedious throughout, I did not care one bit about any of the characters in this movie. They are completely forgettable. Even the Imax 3D punch did not do enough to make this bomb explode with interest.
