Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

I Saw it at midnight , Woot then proceeded to see it again the same day 13 hours later with my family in the same theater ironically .

The Potter films of course are adapted from J.K. Rowlings highly successful book series. I have read all the books multiple times . Admittedly I am a HUGE fan of these books. Let me start by saying this is one of the best in the series second only to Azkaban maybe .

Now HP:HBP is a adoption of a book so expect cuts. That?s to be expected in everything that is adapted to film be it a comic book , play , or work of literature . What makes a good adoption though is a entirely different subject for another time. Now the film dose omit and in some cases add things to the movie that where not in the book . the biggest addition being the attack on the Burror scene . Purist might cry foul but the scene works wonderfully its tense and expresses the danger that is in the war torn world.

As a Film HP:HBP works wonderfully. We see probably the most character growth since the 3rd film. Harry is in his 6th year now at Hogwarts and has been vindicated along with Dumbldore for there claim that the Dark Lord Voldemort has returned. The World we are introduced to now is indeed much more dark dangerous and not safe . We are shown this in the first 5 minutes of the movie by a Death Eater attack on a Bridge and then ravaging of Diagon Alley . We get our first glimpse of Fenir Greyback a Werewolf played by Dave Legeno who dose look rather beastly.

Harry is then picked up by Dumbldore and is taken to help recruit a new professor Horace Slughorn played by Jim Broadbent . Slughorn plays a major role in the plot of the film for eh has something Dumbldore needs. He charges Harry with retrieving it . Dumbldore ominously asks Harry to be ?Collected? by him. We soon learn that Slughorn has a memory that might unravel the secrete to Lord Voldemorts immortality and power.

Meanwhile the movie also deals heavily with love. This is where we see some major growth the three main characters. This new aspect works to portray the overarching theme of the loss of innocence. This also leads to some extremely funny moments in the film and the eventual sobering sad scene since love is a to bladed sword. This movie like all of the films has terrific art direction and style. This also includes its use of color on screen to portray the tone of what?s going on . There will be times where it is basically black and white at times and others where all the colors of the rainbow appear in a dazzling display.

This movie walks a tightrope on one side we have the narrative and plot moving forward and on the other hand we have the character growth that happens . It also treads very well between the very light hearted fun that is the Harry Potter series and the very dark themes that is also in the Harry Potter series. This movie is a very heavy PG by my standards both for the mood and dark stuff that dose happen and also some slight possible sexual innuendos . if your kids read the books though or is over the age of say 9 he/she will be fine. There are some very touching scenes in this movie the best of which I belive to be the scene in Hagrid?s shack .

Harry Potter and the Half blood Prince balances everything expertly and there?s a lot going on in this movie . This is also one of the funniest Potter films I?ve ever seen and sets up the the Finale Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows

It gets a 9 out of 10 and is among the best in the series so far,

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen is simply put 2 and half hours of pure action sc-fi nonstop action. There are only a few minor things I found I did not like about this film. Some dialogue choices , a scene that went just a little to long and some michael bay action movie clichés . Ultimately though forgivable when looked at the whole of the movie.

If you came in expecting a radical character study of robots and machines I suggest you go see Terminator 2: Judgment day instead. If you are looking for pure action stereotypical popcorn this is a summer movie type movie you found it in this. The action is leaps and bounds better and more abundant then in Transformers. Another improvement I enjoyed was Bay?s Camera work. Instead of the normal tons of quick shots that in the end cost a 1000 dollars to make and ultimately have no impact feeling and the viewer is left wondering how all of a sudden this guy died. Instead we have this very circular fluid sort of feel to the cinematography that lets the viewer see the awesome robot on robot action.

The action was not perfect though I found myself going wait what two times in im guessing the first hour or so. The attack on the college made me go what in that all of a sudden we go from the college to a forest . Now we do get the first real taste of what it would look like when it comes to GIANT ROBOT ON ROBOT VIOLENCE. This also leads to a very actual emotional for me movement to a degree . The final climatic battle that takes place also while epic in scale had a few to many typical mike bay clichés slow motion scenes where we see peoples faces expressing shock and disbelief. This did though remind me of the other Michael Bay movie ?The Rock?.

Now the cast of Autobots and Decpticons in this film grew extensively . Now the only problem is If I didn?t pre-screening this movie read the RT article on Who?s Who I might not of remembered all of there names. This is forgivable though since for the most part none for these characters are given us a major reason to invest in them and are there really to provide fire power and more robot on robot violence. So take that as you will if you want to learn all there name s you can go look it up.

This is not a little kids movie for you parents out there. I only say this because there where at least 10 little kids under 10 there . be forewarned there are multiple instances of them saying ?bitch? which really just got on my nerves. There is also some dark imagery and they show the nitty gritty so if your kids like 11 or 12 they?ll be fine 10 and under not some much. I had slight flash backs of a family bringing there little kids to see Watchmen and I asked ?Why are you bring them to a R rated movie?? there answer was ?oh well its only for super hero violence so its not that big of a deal?. Ok now I could use that to go off on a target but wont. Suffice it to say I had a great chuckle when they saw Doctor Manhattan in all his glory .

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is bigger longer and much more epic in scope compared to the last one . Now dose that mean its better not necessarily there are some plot wholes that made me go huh and some scenes that were just a tad to long . in the end though it held my attention for 2 and a half hours and it didn?t feel like that the only thing I had reminding me that it was that long was that fact that I had to go to the bathroom . This is a Great stereotypical summer FX Blockbuster its no Oscar best picture nominee but for what its selling the viewer it dose in spades

i give it 85% or 8.5 out of 10

Burn After Reading

This Movie by the Coens is the ANTI No Country for Old Men in away

Both movies the characters are caught up in something they do not wholly under stand . Josh Brolin character is at least smart enough to know to buy a gun . All the Actors where good in this film . People could say over acted at times in Pitts case but his character needed the absurdity to it which was fun to see. This movie is very Dark an black humored where this lady behind me kept going OMG an o my to all the dark black humored stuff . Myself i was laughing at it all.

George Clooney plays Harry Pfarrer : His character is basically a Characture of George Clooney himself since he gets with basically everyone in this movie an all the women want to get with him

Brad Pitt plays Chad Feldheimer : a Co Worker of Linda(McDormand) at Hardbodies gym he is a air head blonde to the extreme who fashions himself to be smart an takes himself to seriously which is interesting to see from Pitt . This Character provides the most laughter in both general humor an black moments

Frances Mcdormand plays Linda Litsky : She?s trying to get plastic surgery an believes the world to work in a certain way but is herself to self absorbed to realize the big picture like most characters in this movie

John Malkovich plays Osbourne Cox: Ex CIA writing his own memoir after quitting his job and is the only really "smart" one of the movie but even his Intel is very introspective an fails to also grasp what is going on

Everyone brings there A Game Malkovich voice annoys me at first but that?s just a minor complain since it was more tolerable as the film went on . This is a movie about stupid people who 1 don?t understand there own stupidity an 2 fail to see that there insane plan can never work .

The cinematography in this movie is Coens lost of lingering shots and shots of peoples faces where u play the observer in away there?s also a constant since of urgency due to the music they play which is a false build up to something big

This is not like no country for old men in how like epic an deep it was . this was though one of there better comedies the Coens have made an its worth just to see Clooney an Pitt and everyone else
