    Alien (1979)

A master in slow-burn tension and a top class in delivering moments of pure terror, Alien is undoubtedly a contender for best science fiction movie ever. The set design is tremendous, films that can immerse you into it's world and surroundings mean it is an effective film, and Alien does this, whilst getting you connected to the characters and totally gripped by the spectacular moments of action. The visuals are stunning, as are the visceral prosthetics and animatronics which are ultra violent when it comes to the alien attacks. Sigourney Weaver's Ripley is the best female action hero, and her performance is stunning. Tom Skerritt, Veronica Cartwright, Ian Holm, John Hurt, Yaphet Kotto, Harry Dean Stanton (and Jonesy) are fantastic too, this is a brilliant movie from top to bottom.
