    Sucker Punch

    Sucker Punch (2011)

Mind-blowing, jaw-dropping, surreal and breathless entertainment. Sucker Punch is a visuals masterpiece. I have never been so amazed at a film before, every single camera shot and scene has been crammed with something visually wonderful, all created on a highly impressive and imaginative level. Sucker Punch is just epic, I love the concept that revolves around dreams and imagination, Zack Snyder has created a pure adrenaline rush of a movie. Sucker Punch follows Baby Doll who is locked away against her will in a mental hospital/brothel, but she is strong willed and determined to fight back using dreams and the power of her mind to escape. What follows is a series of beautifully created worlds that Baby Doll ventures into from a monastery with protected by ancient warriors, trenches surrounded by war and steam powered soldiers, a castle with a dragon and a futuristic planet. The visuals here are undoubtedly some of the best effects I've ever seen, more amazing than Transformers and much more beautiful than Avatar, yes, than Avatar. The best scene of the whole movie is the World War trenches with the Gas Mask soldiers. The establishing and wide shots look incredible, from ruined buildings, trenches, huge zeppelins floating in the sky as planes fly around at war, I cannot fault this movie it's pure excellence in CGI, it's eye candy gone wild. The actresses that play the five girls are great (Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Vanessa Hudgens, Jena Malone and Jamie Chung) they deliver stunning performances and manage to kick ass at the same time. Oscar Isaac, Jon Hamm, Carla Gugino and Scott Glenn are excellent too, they are compelling and gripping to watch. Sucker Punch is a film that's unlike anything else I've ever seen, it's so unique! The only reason why I didn't give it a fresh 100% is because Sucker Punch would've perfect in 3D, just look at it, the opportunity to deliver hundreds of pop out moments and add incredible depth has been missed out. Ignoring that, Zack Snyder has created a glorious adventure filled with amazing imagery, some of the best visuals and creative camera shots, I never thought I'd find a film so fierce, Sucker Punch is the most satisfying and unique movie I've seen in years.
