The movies you recommended sounds really interesting and I have to check them out one day. I have seen Midnight Run and that was a good movie.

All the Astrology stuff is fascinating as well and I will be first one to admit with so much beauty surrounding us, one cannot help but give in to this potentially addictive appeal. And I think us humans crave the attention as well lol. We are blessed with sensory appeal and I believe in indulging the five senses to a certain degree. Hence my love of movies, music and books!

I say indulge but remember there will always be arguments used to draw you in using Logos, Ethos, and Pathos- logic, ethics, emotions. We are each held accountable for our own actions and one's sense of morality of right and wrong. And I think you realize this because you use the term "fantasy" as your own instincts guide you towards actions that even though you are tempted to indulge the "senses" you think of repercussions to which we are liable. I always think there is no better "high" than the attention of an admirer. I guess it is all that pheromones in the air. Reality or fantasy? The mind boggles lol.

xxdebxx
Deb S 3 years ago

Nope, I have not seen A MIGHTY WIND, THE MAN nor "DEATH TO SMOOTCHY . But BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE was simply hilarious. I quite enjoyed Queen Latifah and Steve Martin. The scene where he opens the door and sees her for the first time is just too much. My favorite part was when Steve enters the all-black nightclub lol. And Levy practically steals every scene he appears in, with his dead-pan humor. I think one of the most memorable cat fights in movie history was the one between Charlene and Peter's ex sister in-law. That was just hilarious! Ohhh and I remember the Massa song that Latifah sung as well. That was one amusing movie.

Hi Criss,

Loved Queen of the Damned but I must confess I did not read the book, darn it. (And it was sad that the singer Aaliyah died in a plane crash shortly after the filming of the movie.)

BTW, did you know that Tom Cruise was initially asked to return in the role of Lestat, but he declined.

And yep, how could I have forgotten True Blood, that one truly did slip me but I like the series. Right now, I have missed out more episodes than I care to admit so I am hoping to purchase the whole collection on DVD for my viewing pleasure. It has been a big hit on TV thus far.

Twilight is okay but like you said, too PG rated. I have not yet seen Eclipse as yet but I've read all of Stephanie Meyers books on the Twilight saga and I feel duty bound to watch the movie now. Just not in any hurry to do so just yet.

I do endorse your opinion that doing the mini series in so much more enjoyable as there is the character build up and the sequence of events is not rushed.

I enjoy reading all kinds of mysteries including Agatha Christie's Poirot but nope, I have not been watching them. I haven't even heard of "Masterpiece Mystery" so I must check this out now, get some more info.

Good hearing from you and thanx for sharing. Take care now.

Hey Criss,

Well I do hope no one attempts to make a movie out of Annie Rice's novel but I am sure it is only all a matter of time as horror/vampires genre seem to be the latest craze what with the Twilight Saga, The Gates, The Vampire Diaries being the most watched shows/movies currently. Just make a wish that the one who takes the challenge up, does it right this time. Remember Interview with the Vampire and Queen of the Damned, all Annie Rice novels turned to film.

Anyways, I am tempted to watch the Omen now as I did enjoy the books and as long as the movie follows true to the books, it will definitely prove to be as good as you say.

I have not read nor watched Whip It but I have that on my list of movies to check out.

Well gotta run now.

Have a good day/night.

Just picture the director and/or the editor haggling over how the movie should end and this is what it turns out to be or perhaps they made it up as they went along go figure.

Rosemary's baby sounds fascinating and I've always loved the Omen Books with Damien. Perhaps I'll take a look at it one day even though the movie is always so inferior to the books lol well most of the time anyway.

Thanx for taking the time out to reply. Have a great day now.

Peace Out!

Blessed was good, such a pity about the ending. I was totally mystified with the exclamation "oh my god" when the twins were born as they seemed quite normal and no sign of scaly wings that were moving around in her tummy so why the outburst?

Fast forward years later when that young boy dies at the kids' party, one of them looks dismayed but the other joyous and note they were dressed as angels so go figure. Might be wishful thinking on the parents part. I wished they had delved more into the relationship between husband and wife as well. Oh well, it was nonetheless entertaining. And like you said perhaps room for a sequel. Some have said it is a ripoff from Rosemary's baby but I've never seen that one so I cannot comment there.

E of the L.

It was good and I somehow enjoyed it very much. More than I did Ashwariya's Mistress of the Spices as I do like her. I guess the spices had me baffled lol.

Hope u have a great new week. Take care now. I am always so happy to receive comments on the movies I've seen.

Hi Criss!

You really made my evening with your kind words.

When I saw what awful, shallow movie titles the MCT was based on, I knew there was no way the test could be effectively accurate, so I just went right down the middle and gave everything 3 stars so as not to limit my options to meet people.

Who is the test written for, the characters from the movie Clueless??? Frankly, I wanted to mark nearly all of them "not interested" except for The Ring and maybe Meet The Fokkers.

Well it looks like my instincts were right in sending you a friend invite. What luck that I should meet somebody so interesting and receptive on the first try!

XOXO,
Amber

Greetings, my dear:
For starters, as you put it, I do not know you, so I am not going to freak out at anything that you may or may not say on here. Whatever you put down for a review of a movie, I will take it as an open mind.

Just to give you a heads up, there are two things I never like talking about online; politics and religion. I ONLY like to discuss movies on here.

I do hope we have many future discussions on here!

ttandt268
tracy fischer 4 years ago

nice to meet you

NobleKnight
Sean Read 4 years ago

Hate you? My friend, I barely know you, and with that I am open to hear what you have to say.

I agree that sometimes people on here might as well write a book about the movie and more than one way spoil the story all together. I, myself, am not like that. I like to review about the acting, the plot, and the flow. I never like to talk about what actually happens in the film, unless I am giving heads up that the previews were not giving all the detail of what the movie is TRUELY about.

I am not a person that likes to hear myself talk, or rather on here love to see my writing skills. I just like to share my reviews/opinions about the film. That is what I thought this site was all about.

The only thing on here that really my Sylvia Goat is the people that try to lore you into a porn website. THAT is not what this site is for. So that is why I have my method of choosing my friends.

If at all you find anything I say on here unprofessionally and offensive, please bring this to my attention and I am sorry for ahead of time if I do.

Hopefully see you around!

That's true Criss, my husband and I love watching the old Musketeer movies...in fact all the old swashbuckler type stuff. Errol Flynn is probably still my favourite pirate!

Have you read Pillars of the Earth and Year of Wonders? Both books I enjoyed so much. Another one to look out for is "An Instance of the Fingerpost" (I hope I've remembered that title correctly). It's a mystery told from each character's point of view. I also enjoyed the book Perfume, set in medieval France but I haven't seen the movie version yet.

kimmiejuly
Kim Marie 4 years ago

Hi Criss, please don't worry about whether you are logged on or not......my friends and I just answer each other's posts when the opportunity arises. I'm a nightowl so I can often be found answering posts at midnight just because I can't sleep. Also, being in Oz means that the times overseas don't always match up with when my friends are online.

You've mentioned a great many of my favourite old movies with Cary Grant.....did you also watch "Operation Petticoat"?....love that one too.

You've made me watch to track down "The Slipper and the Rose" as I haven't seen that movie for years and years. Richard Chamberlain was great in "The Thornbirds" too.

Found myself crying when I watched "In Bruges" reccently.....loved the movie but I think you would find it difficult to watch.

You did well to enjoy Moulin Rouge! since it is quite sad too.

Do hope you get to see "Whip It" soon because I think you'll love it. How are you with animated stuff? I'm not an enormous fan but I have seen a few that I've really enjoyed. "Up" is very good if you haven't seen that one....has it's sad moments too but generally "uplifting" if you'll excuse the pun!

Well, what I do to consider to accept friends is see where their statue would be to compare to me (casual friends, good friends, runaway, ext.) Then I see if they have any friends on their list and see how long they actually have been on flixster. It's a bit complicated, but I assure you it makes sense.

Yeah, I do get a bit serious when it comes to watching movies, and I like to share to other viewers what I liked or disliked about it. I like comparing ideas with others, see what they might think.

So I am looking forward to some of your forward reviews and I hope we are able to bounce ideas off of each other some time!

Hi Criss, I'm very glad that you feel comfortable enough with us as friends that you can talk about something that has affected your life so much. I feel very sad that your childhood was not a happy one but you've obviously overcome a great deal and must be a very strong person. I work in a medical centre and we try to help many people who are looking to find the right treatment to overcome their problems and, as you would know, it's not a "one solution fits all".

I do understand what you mean about books and movies and it often depends on my mood as to which movies I can watch. If I'm a bit down then I definitely look to comedies and light romance. I think some of the horrific things that happen in our world can be so overwhelming that I can't watch the news or even listen so please don't think you are alone in your feelings. Isn't it funny that we both admire Jane Goodall so much?

kimmiejuly
Kim Marie 4 years ago

Hahaha.....when it comes to tears I've been known to cry in commercials!! I'm hopeless.........I end up in tears every time I watch West Side Story and The King and I and over the years I must have watched them dozens of times but I can't help myself.....such a sook!!

There's an Aussie movie coming out soon that I think will be very good but I'm hesitant about going to see it because, from the subject matter (bone marrow transplant) I know it's going to be very sad......it's called "Matching Jack". One of my favourite "medical" movies from ages ago is called "The Doctor" starring John Hurt......I'd recommend that one if you haven't seen it.

Thanks Criss, I write a review thinking that someone else has not seen the movie and therefore try not to give away too much of the story. Some people write great reviews but I'd only read them after I've seen the movie.

Ahh...."Bones" is the nickname given to Dr McCoy by Captain Kirk. Oh yes, Galaxy Quest is one of those great movies that can affectionately make fun of itself! Yes, I have seen Ben Browder and Claudia Black in Stargate (after Farscape) but (unlike my son) I haven't really got into the series.......not watching much TV these days.

I should be getting ready now for work but off the top of my head some of my favourite authors would be Robin Hobb, Derek Hansen, Trevanian, Naomi Novik, Geraldine Brooks and many of the more well known older authors but have run out of time so will talk more again later.

Bye for now.

I'm probably more a fan of thrillers rather than straight mysteries (both books and movies) but I have withdrawal symptoms if I'm ever without a book so I'll pretty much read anything at hand. Because of Twilight my daughter has become an avid reader and loves the paranormal world, so she has me reading everything she has so that we can discuss the books afterwards.....I don't really mind because I love to see her read now.

The Pillars of the Earth was a favourite book of mine and I'm looking forward to seeing the mini-series. Did you watch the series called "Rome"? They really went to a lot of trouble to make the setting and behaviour an authentic portrayal. The Name of the Rose is another movie that I enjoyed very much.

I could babble on here forever but I won't bore you too much all at once, lol. Bye for now.

kimmiejuly
Kim Marie 4 years ago

I thought Karl Urban was great as "Bones" too....I did see Pathfinder and thought the camera work was quite unusual in that movie. Do you remember seeing Karl in LoTR? I think he played Eomer if memory serves me.

For some reason I missed watching the latest Babylon 5 series but I hope to catch up with that at some stage. I was a great fan of Farscape and was sorry to see the series finish without some sort of closure. I saw one of my favourite scifi movies again recently......Gattaca with Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman.
On the lighter side, have you seen Galaxy Quest?

I think I'd agree with the looking for something "bigger" or "more" out there. The Green Mile gave me that and I love movies where the interactions of characters can be important....Crash was a good example. Then there are ones with an emotional kick or a fantastic acting performance like American History X.

Do you like to read when you get the chance? I'm a shocking bookworm but I try not to compare movie/book adaptations because I think each should be judged on it's own merits.

If you would like to see some good Aussie actors - and Toni Collette show that she can sing - then look for the black comedy Cosi. However, it might depend on your own sense of humour....mine's a bit warped!

kimmiejuly
Kim Marie 4 years ago

Thanks Criss, since you spent three years in Japan I'm sure you would find Ramen Girl interesting. You might also try Shall We Dansu if you haven't seen that. I've never had the opportunity to travel much but my only overseas trip many years ago was to Japan and I thought it was great......just wish I could have spoken more than a couple of phrases of Japanese. We've hosted a couple of Japanese students in the past and they were both lovely girls.

I'm really pleased to find someone else who knows about the movie "Powder". I always thought it was very underrated. Then again my taste in movies is probably a bit strange......another friend on here tells me that my favourite movies are either about dancing or killing, lol.
