A more graphic and vulgar version of the Hansel & Gretel fairy tale. Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton play the older version of Hansel & Gretel. Now they are witch hunters assist a small town that children have been vanishing from.
The idea behind a R Rated volient twist to this story set some very high expectations from me. I was hoping that this would be a special film with an identany. But by the mid way point I realized that this film was going to fall way short from what I had hoped. Writer/Director Tommy Wirkola did one of my more recent favorite horror films titled Dead Snow. Which I recommed to any one that loves Zombie films. Hansel & Gretel is a very entertaining film but it's very toned down compared to the violence in Dead Snow. I had some very high expectations for this film based on Wirkola's short history. I didn't find the witches to be as ugly, mean, gross, disgusting creatures as I thought they might be. Instead they had very Matrix-Like moves and the fight scenes were a big let down. However the very witty one liners from Renner and Arterton were the most entertainment this film featured. However I was more bored than entertained.
I give Hansel & Gretal... 2 Stars.
