Not quite as I was expecting. I expected this movie to be too long and drawn out, especially because of the 2 and a 1/2 hour run time. To my surprise this movie wasn't half bad! Despite this bascially being an extended history lesson about Mississippi during the 1960's, it had heart, humor, strong performances from ALL the actors, and a great look at the lives of "the help." It also does the rare thing of making you feel happy that things are the way they are now. The movie does have a couple flaws though. The run time is an obvious indication that this movie is long... I mean REALLY long. The accents, although accurate, at times got on my nerves (I'm referring to the southern accents). So if your girlfriend, mom, sister, or chick cousin drags you to this movie, at least you'll be entertained and treated with one hell of a storyline and amazing acting rarely found in most movies now a-days. In other words it's the exact opposite of Twilight. Go check it out!
