    The Place Beyond The Pines

The Place Beyond The Pines (2013)

Flawed but haunting, powerful and beautiful. This is a film about legacy and fittingly so like legacy, the film stays with you. The triptych was an ambitious and bold choice of narrative but was impeccably executed. This is thematically rich, brilliant and masterful storytelling marked by exceptional performances from the entire cast, especially Ryan Gosling and Dane Dehaan. Each are consistently electrifying and have a demanding gravitational presence to them. There is no taking yours eyes off these two. This is another towering picture after Blue Valentine (one of my favorites of the decade) that solidifies Cianfrance as one of our great, American, independent filmmakers. Despite a few minor missteps, this is a masterpiece. An extended analytical review will be posted soon.
