    The Guard (2011)

A fun, simple Irish film. It excels in the small details. It has some good jokes, and it has some poignant moments. Gleeson plays an Irish cop from Galway where all things Dublin and foreign are evil. Gleeson plays a very thoughtful and methodical character that in all outward signs comes off as ignorant. The entire film plays on the ambiguity as Cheadle declares "Either you are really (bleeping) smart or really (bleeping) dumb. The movie leaves it up for the viewer to decide. In the movie Gleeson runs into a murder which is later tied up with a cocaine shipment that the FBI wants to intercept. Cheadle plays the FBI agent that works with Gleeson in parts of the investigation. The plot is not original, but the experience of how the story and film are put together is worth it. An enjoyable, quirky film for viewers who enjoy off beat movies.
